I know a lot of people are eager to play go off-line. Unfortunately also for 2021 we had to decide to cancell the tournament that is traditionally held on the weekend around ascension day.

10/04/2020

Our apologies for mentioning this only on our website, but not yet on the page. But sadly, AIGT 2020 has been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis:

Cancelled due to Covid-19 (Corona Virus)

As the Dutch government had forbidden all events until June 1st, the Amsterdam Tournament 2020 will be cancelled.
All participants who have already paid will get their money back in the coming weeks.
We hope everyone will be safe in these trying times, and we hope to see you all next year at the AIGT 2021!

WHAT IS NEW AND/OR EXCITING AT AIGT 2020?

* The new location much closer to the city centre. As the EGCC has -- sadly -- by now closed its doors, we had to look for a new location for the AIGT. Fortunately, we have found a very suitable location, the Cygnus Gymnasium at Vrolikstraat 8, easily reachable by tram and metro.

* There will be €325 of prize money specifically for the top female players.

* There will be increased prize money for the rapid tournament.

* We will have our own catering at the location.

GAME REVIEWS

* There will be an opportunity for participants to get game reviews by Rob van Zeijst, 6th dan, at the event location.

We hope to see you all in May in Amsterdam!

SIDE EVENTS AT AIGT 2020

Besides this year's main AIGT event, we will organize two side events:
- The DNM Rapid, which will be held at the community center "Ons Genoegen" on Friday May 22 and Saturday May 23. The total amount of prize money for the Rapid will be €500, of which a prize of €250 for the winner. Besides the rapid, at this location there will also be opportunity for eating a good meal.
- The usual Blitz tournament on Wednesday May 21, which this year will be held in Cafe De 2 Klaveren. We will have the basement of the café available to us this evening, so it will be possible to play the Blitz in relatively quiet surroundings. 12 minutes per player per game, no overtime, and 4 or 5 rounds during the evening. The total prize money for the Blitz will be €250!
Make sure to register before the 1st of April, to get a full discount. With this discount, full costs will be 40 euros for the main tournament + the two side events, or 25 euros for all events on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament's website:

Amsterdam International Go Tournament 2020 | European Go Federation bonus points tournament (level C) Rob van Zeijst 7d, multiple-times European champion, will be the official commentator of the tournament: during the entire event he will provide game commentaries. Feel free to approach him during the breaks of the tournament to review your game.

We are thinking about you!
To give you the best Amsterdam & Go experience during our tournament in 2020

As most of you already know, the European Go and Culture Centre in Amstelveen will close down by the end of this year.
Immediately after this news, we as a team have been trying to find a new location to hold the AIGT in 2020.
We have been scouting out several places and finally have narrowed it down to one place, a school building in Amsterdam City. We are still negotiating to get the best conditions for all of you. So that we can have:
- A nice space for games
- A seperate space for the top boards
- A seperate space to do comments and/or have lunch
- Drinks like coffee/tea, etc. and some basic food
- Close to the City so you can enjoy your stay and the
evenings in Amsterdam.

We are also investigating the idea to have an evening where we can enjoy dinner together.
So please stay tuned and we'll keep you updated.

We had an exciting tournament with great weather and a lot of nice people. Thank you all for coming and we'll see you next year!

..and if you missed out this year, mark your diary for next year and join in the fun.

As part of our events during AIGT, Rob van Zeijst, 7-dan gives a lot of commentaries on ordinary games.
The final day (yesterday) was marked by a commentary with Kim Young-Sam in front of a live audience.

I wrote down a part of this commentary of the game between Kim Young-Sam (Europe No. 1) and Ali Jabarin (2p) played this game in the 5th round of the Amsterdam International Go Tournament.

The take-away from this game is that sacrificing (letting go, detachment) can be a powerful strategy!
