Every swimmer knows both of these lengths. π
The good one, you barely think. Breathing lands where it should, the body stays flat, and you get to the wall wondering why it's ever difficult.
Then the next lap happens.
π Head lifts slightly
π Hips drop
π Breathing gets rushed
π And the coach starts making shapes with his hands at the end of the lane
The gestures are always the same. Flat palm pressing down. Pointing at his own head. The one where he mimes your entire stroke back at you, which is somehow the most devastating.
Here's the useful part though: the difference between those two laps is almost never fitness. It's usually one small thing slipping β and it's the reason having someone watching matters more than swimming more.
