Alpine Canada is proud to announce a new long-term partnership with Capital Power to help shape the future for winter sport in Canada.

Capital Power will invest $5 million in the first year, supporting athlete pathways, coaching, national training centres, event hosting, community programming and high-performance initiatives across alpine, Para alpine and ski cross.

We are proud to announce that with this investment, team fees for national and development teams will be eliminated, removing a financial barrier allowing our athletes to focus on training, development and performance.

With a potential total investment of $25 million over the partnership’s initial term, this commitment is designed for an amalgamation of at least one additional national amateur snow discipline, coupled with additional incremental government funding.

Together, we’re building a stronger future for Canadian winter sport and creating more opportunities for Canadians to participate, compete and pursue podium success on the world stage.

A major investment in the future of Para-Alpine!

Applications for Alpine Canada’s expanded Carving the Future Grant Program open September 1, 2026, and close December 31, 2026.

Applications will be reviewed upon submission, with priority given to strong early-season projects - particularly those supporting athlete identification, integration and Canada Winter Games development.

The 2026-27 program supports:
- Try-It events that introduce athletes to para-alpine
- Athlete integration into established programming
- Bursaries that help athletes continue after their first experience
- Provincial para coach development and local leadership

This is about more than creating one day on snow. It is about helping communities build the coaching, partnerships and follow-up required for athletes to enter the pathway and stay involved.

- Les événements d’initiation au ski para-alpin;
- L’intégration de para-athlètes dans des programmes établis;
- Les bourses permettant aux para-athlètes de poursuivre leur cheminement après leur première expérience;

Congratulations on your retirement Brian Rowland 🇨🇦

Brian Rowland joined Team Canada in 2019 after winning silver at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta. Competing in the sitting category following a motorcycle injury in 2015, Brian never let the injury slow him down. Away from the slopes, he continues to surf, mountain bike and Jet Ski.

Rowland captured the first World Cup podium of his career in the final race of the 2022–23 season, skiing to third place in the men’s sitting downhill. He also represented Canada at both the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games and the 2026 Milano Cortina Paralympic Winter Games.

Landing that World Cup downhill podium was the highlight of his career, but Brian had plenty more to celebrate this spring, winning all three Canadian national titles in Kimberley, B.C., to cap his alpine racing career.

Brian would like to thank the coaches and teammates who helped create so many great memories on the road over the years. His journey has also been shaped by his admiration for Terry Fox, inspiring him to give back and mentor young athletes.

Now, Brian is looking forward to spending more time with his family, continuing to free ski, and taking on a new challenge: archery 🏹

Congratulations on an incredible career, Brian. We’re inspired by everything you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see what comes next. 🇨🇦
