Most dancers think confidence in auditions means:
“feeling confident.”
But that’s not actually what creates a strong audition presence and a state of flow.
Real audition confidence is often built from 4 things:
• clarity
• self-trust
• permission to take space
• and some emotional regulation under pressure
Clarity
Knowing who you are as a dancer instead of desperately trying to fit what you think they want.
Knowing your strengths, qualities, artistry, and what makes you memorable.
Self-trust
Trusting your preparation and your body under pressure.
Not falling apart mentally after one mistake or one correction.
Staying connected to the dancing instead of spiraling in self-judgment.
Permission to take space
Many dancers unconsciously shrink themselves in auditions.
They hold back energy, artistry, personality, eye line, movement quality… because they are afraid to be judged.
But auditions require visibility. Presence matters.
Emotional regulation under pressure
The dancers who stand out are often not the most “perfect.”
They are the ones who can regulate stress, stay focused, recover quickly, and remain emotionally available while dancing at least to some extent.
Confidence is rarely loud.
Usually it looks like grounded energy, presence, clarity, and commitment.

2 mums in Paris on Mother’s Day 🥳❤️😄 many dreams came true this weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the ballerina mums, dance mums, and future mums 🤍
I truly hope we continue creating a ballet world where more dancers feel free to embrace motherhood and family life without feeling like they have to choose between their career and their personal life.
Motherhood doesn’t take away your artistry, ambition, or dedication. If anything, it adds depth, strength, and perspective.
To every dancer balancing rehearsals, exhaustion, stage life, and motherhood… I see you. And I hope you know you’re doing enough.
Happy Mother’s Day 🤍

La Bayadère feels like a full circle moment for me
From dancing Patrice Bart’s version as a Shade in school with Bayerisches Staatsballett
to performing Natalia Makarova’s version with Dutch National Ballet at 21.
Back then, I was just trying to survive my first solo in the Shades trio while dancing 6 other roles in the production.
The pressure was so overwhelming
mentally, physically… it caught up with me. Hospitalized with anemia a sprained ankle right before my last lead show with my mum in the audience. So much drama 🫠
And now at 37…
those same fears show up again. But this time it’s different, well, for one, I only had 1 role to focus on.
But I see it for what it is, my mind trying to protect me. We often anticipate that what happened in the past will repeat itself. That's why certain productions bring up nausea 🫣🤫
And I’m not chasing the same thing anymore. Success doesn’t get to come at the cost of my health
not my body, not my mind. I know my body better, and I get to dance for me. And I'm grateful I can.
We’re taught to push through everything
But maybe the real growth is knowing when not to and choosing the right goals and yourself anyway.
Thank you .sissens and for a great episode on .on.stage ⬇️
The stakes are often higher than the standard.
Your standard is how you show up.
Your focus, your preparation, your level.
The stakes are what you attach to the outcome.
Being chosen. Being seen. Not falling behind.
What it means about you if it doesn’t go your way.
Both are real.
Both are self-imposed.
And both can serve you.
But when they blur, everything starts to feel heavy.
You stop dancing with freedom and start dancing with fear.
A fulfilling career lives in the balance.
So get clear:
What is my standard?
And what am I making this mean about me?
Because once you separate the two,
the pressure softens — and the joy comes back.

When discovered the power of mindset coaching in my dancing, I knew I could make a real difference on other dancers journey. Weather it’s auditions or career growth It doesn’t have to be on survival mode, it can be fulfilling and sustainable. Ownership is key. Reach out if you want a real change ❤️
I hear Dancers ask this question all the time:
“Where do you see me grow in the company?”
And honestly… it’s not always the right place to start.
Because the moment you ask it without clarity,
you hand over your responsibility.
Your career is not something someone else defines for you.
The real question is:
Where do you see yourself growing?
What do you need to work on to get there?
That’s where the process begins.
Then yes—bring that into a conversation with your artistic staff.
That’s when feedback becomes powerful.
That’s when progress becomes real.
Not when you’re waiting to be told who to become.
I see dancers chasing promotion like it’s the goal.
And doing things that slowly disconnect them from themselves—
underfueling to be thin, overpushing, proving devotion at any cost.
But promotion is not success.
It’s a title. A status. Something others see.
What actually stays with you is the process.
The roles that challenged you.
The people you danced with.
The moments you felt alive on stage.
Some of my most fulfilling experiences were not tied to rank at all.
So don’t let ballet culture box you into chasing a title.
You’re here for more than that.
You’re here to grow.
To experience.
To feel inspired again and again.
And if that path leads you to the top—beautiful.
But don’t lose yourself trying to get there.
If you want to learn how to take real ownership of your career
and build a mindset that actually supports your growth—

Decembering! Reflecting and wishing for more mindful being rather than constant doing, trying new approaches with more courage and compassion. Hearing Marissa repeat things back to me 😮. But also taking a moment to pause, breathe, and appreciate the magic around us. Look closely ❤️ you're exactly where you need to be in this moment.
