Leaders of Unites #142 - Thymen Huisman

“As a coach, I can motivate others to reach their personal best.”

Born and raised in Heerhugowaard, 20-year-old Thymen Huisman developed a passion for basketball at an early age through his mother. While he once dreamed of a professional career, growing up led him to explore other paths, including aquarium diving and specializing as an animal keeper. Ultimately, he realized his heart truly belonged back on the basketball court—a place that provided comfort during difficult times, like his parents' divorce, and allowed him to fully be himself.

Thymen’s journey with 3X3 Unites began when he joined the first 3X3 Leader Course in Heerhugowaard. Initially drawn by basketball, he quickly recognized the value of learning life skills. Today, Thymen applies those lessons as a coach for the under-16 team at HBC, using unique exercises to build trust, teamwork, and character. Having also completed the Mentor Course, he regularly leads local activations and is preparing to do his Sport & Exercise internship with 3X3 Unites.

For Thymen, personal growth and guiding others go hand in hand. Together with a friend, he is starting a basketball training company, symbolized by a compass ring they wear alongside their first student—a constant reminder to help others find the right path while staying on theirs. Looking ahead, Thymen aims to keep growing within 3X3 Unites and become the best version of himself.

Behind every court is a story — and this one is all about impact. 🏀✨

In Beijum, Groningen, we hosted our first-ever 3X3 Leader Course. Now, opening the first official 3x3 court brings everything full circle.

"This court is the legacy of our Leaders. It allows us to keep growing our impact on the streets." — Egor Fomin, 3X3 Unites.

Designed alongside local Leaders Ata, Damien, and Devario van Daal, the Bacuna Playground was officially opened with pro footballer Juninho Bacuna and Alderman Jalt de Haan.

Under our motto 'Win Together', we prove what happens when youth take ownership and partners unite: Municipality of Groningen, WIJ Team, Krajicek Foundation, Groningen Beweegt, Overstag, and Nijha B.V.

More Leaders = More Impact 💥

Local Leaders transform neighborhoods by creating safe spaces and giving youth a voice.

One week ago, history was made at Museumplein! 🏀✨

We officially opened the new Legacy Art Court, designed by . But this court is about so much more than basketball.

Munir’s design connects directly to what 3X3 Unites builds every day: places where young people can grow, connect with their community, and discover their strength through 3x3 basketball.

And from day one, that’s exactly what happened:
🔥 48 players took to the court, joined by local residents, kids, and visitors.
🎙️ Powerful words from Ruben, Munir, and Thomas Hermans on what this space means for the neighborhood.
💥 Instead of a traditional ribbon cutting, we officially opened the court with an alley-oop dunk!

Our 3X3 Leaders drove the entire day—handling production, refereeing, and running challenges. With 100+ people, great music, and food, the court immediately became what it was always meant to be:

A place to play.
A place to connect.
A place to grow. 💛
