Great day at ROC van Amsterdam! 🎤🔥

Today I had the privilege of running workshops with an amazing team for a group of enthusiastic students — writing raps, making beats, and discovering together what they’ve got.

Proud of the engagement from the teachers and the energy from the students. Days like this show exactly what Future Me stands for: giving young people a platform to find their voice, through music, fashion, theater, and visual arts.

Thanks to the whole team — Bazz, Sabrina, Rellie, Sep, Sev, Jotte, Saundra and all the involved teachers — for this great collaboration. Every Wednesday in September, we continue!

Tofu and broccoli stir-fry for breakfast. I am trying out new dishes. For the past month, I have had a very hard time getting eggs down my throat, to the point of feeling nauseous.

I used to love eggs, but now I am looking for alternatives, and this morning I fried up some tofu with plenty of herbs and very little salt because of my low-salt diet. And then I added some broccoli. I have to say that the tofu tastes the same as egg. Next time I will add some soy sauce to give it a bit more juice. Food = medicine 🥦💊

Back at Slotermeerlaan 173. Fourth floor, that balcony up on the right — that’s where I grew up. I used to look out over the neighborhood and drift off into daydreams.

This neighborhood, Geuzenveld-Slotermeer, was known in the ‘90s as the area with the highest percentage of youth crime in the Netherlands. I was no exception to that. But at the same time, it was also a neighborhood full of togetherness, with all kinds of cultures mixed together — you knew each other, you looked out for one another. It’s the place where it all began: my friendships, adventures in the neighborhood, my first mistakes, and eventually also my path toward something better.

I still love walking back through it every once in a while. Not to stay stuck in the past, but to see how far I’ve come — and where I still get to go.

🎸 **LOOKING FOR: AFROBEAT / HIGHLIFE GUITARIST**

For an upcoming musical research project I’m looking for a guitarist rooted in the Nigerian afrobeat and highlife tradition — the language of Fela Kuti and the West African guitar schools.

The project involves a series of masterclasses in which I want to deepen my understanding of the guitar structures, rhythms and cultural weight of this music.

**Who I’m looking for:**
• In-depth knowledge of afrobeat and/or highlife guitar
• Experience teaching or passing on knowledge
• Affinity with the cultural context, not just the technique
• Preferably based in the Netherlands
