IDCL-2016 :
Bangalore Knights had the scheduled line up to play against Chennai Kings, United India Challengers and Kerala Tuskers in the league stages! Bangalore knights had a great team with a mix of young and experienced players and all were excited and looking forward for a wonderful day of cricket and enjoy the day as well as company of each other. We also knew that in such a format of the game, on the given day, you can beat any team.
First match against Chennai Kings was a perfect example as the Knights had a great start with a wonderful win with superb contributions from Srikanta who scored a 50+ not out innings playing the entire 12 overs, Devidas with some power hitting at the end and a 5 wicket haul by Gourav. At the end, an easy win against a tough side, a great start for the Knights!
In the Second match the Knights had to face a defeat against the United India Challengers, but not before a wonderful fight by the Knights! The score of 59 was made to look like chasing a mammoth total and the game was taken till last over before the Challengers chased it down.
Due to the loss in the 2nd game, the third game turned out to be a do or die game against the spirted Kerala Tuskers, the game, as expected was a close one and fortunately the Knights won it! Excellent batting display again by Srikanta and some skillful hitting by Sandeep Abhyankar to chase down 119 in 12 overs.
Two wins meant that the Knights qualified to semi-finals against the defending champions Delhi Dynamites, a match reduced to 7 overs a side due to time constraint. The Knights showed some excellent resilience and chased down 72 runs in just 5.4 overs without losing a wicket! An Astonishing innings of power hitting by Sandeep Abhyankar who scored a 18 ball 43 and equally complimenting skillful batting by Srikanta taking the Knights to the finals!
The finals was against a strong well balanced Punjab Lions where the Knights were had to chase 94 in 10 overs for a win, unfortunately ended 10 short of the victory and ended up as the runners up of IDCL-2016.
There were a lot of Positives, we included two young players Shreyas and Arnav, two wonderful addition’s to the side, both of them displayed some excellent skills on the field playing with the ‘seniors’ and showed everyone that they are not to be counted lightly! Arnav kept the batsmen guessing with his off-spin bowling and Shreyas made sure the team got the much need break-through's with his leggies! Hope these two continue to represent the Knights in coming years..
The team also had some wonderful and notable contributions by Amit, Manish, Bhushan, Manikandan , Sasanka, Gurlabh Singh and Sathish Iyer.
