Sometimes the most powerful act of leadership is simply ๐œ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐ฉ๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž ๐œ๐š๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐š๐ ๐š๐ข๐ง.

Lately Iโ€™ve been thinking about the concept of โ€œ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฌ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒโ€.
The term is often used to describe small pockets of clarity and humanity that exist within turbulent systems.

An ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฌ๐š๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ is ๐š ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง, ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐œ๐ž, ๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฉ, ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฆ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ฌ ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ , ๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ž๐ ๐ฏ๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ž๐ฌ, ๐จ๐ซ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก๐ฒ ๐›๐ž๐ก๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ซ ๐ฐ๐ก๐ž๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ ๐๐จ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ.

A conversation where people pause before reacting.โ€จA room where listening still happens.โ€จA moment where someone chooses steadiness over noise.

These islands are rarely grand or visible.
They are small pockets where something different becomes possible: clear thinking, dignity, curiosity, care.

In times when the world can feel overwhelming, these spaces start to matter even more.
Not because they solve everything.โ€จBut because they remind us of the kind of world we are still capable of creating with one another.

Last week, I joined a group of fellow practitioners in a rich, embodied exploration of coaching and leadership through the lens of ๐‘ต๐’‚๐’“๐’“๐’‚๐’•๐’Š๐’—๐’† ๐‘ฐ๐’…๐’†๐’๐’•๐’Š๐’•๐’š- a journey into selfhood, story, and transformation.

๐‘ต๐’‚๐’“๐’“๐’‚๐’•๐’Š๐’—๐’† ๐‘ฐ๐’…๐’†๐’๐’•๐’Š๐’•๐’š is a deep dive into the stories we tell - to ourselves and to the world - about who we are.

Our narrative identity is the ongoing inner story that gives our lives coherence and meaning.
Itโ€™s how we make sense of our past, understand our present, and imagine our future.
These stories are shaped by belief systems that may have once served usโ€ฆ but perhaps no longer do.โ€จ

Just wrapped up a couple of days in the German countryside with 60 beautiful souls โœจ. What brought us together is our shared commitment to the lifelong journey of Inner Work. Time paused. Deep connections formed. Conversations flowed straight to the heart. Nowhere else Iโ€™d rather be. Iโ€™ll be carrying these cherished memories and bonds with me for a long time. Until next year ๐Ÿซถ

A beautiful evening with dear friends and a role model of true leadership.

๐‰๐š๐œ๐ข๐ง๐๐š ๐€๐ซ๐๐ž๐ซ๐ง is refreshingly simple, relatable, and principled. Through her time in office and her recent book, ๐˜ˆ ๐˜‹๐˜ช๐˜ง๐˜ง๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต ๐˜’๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜—๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ, she has taken a less conventional approach to traditional leadership.

Some of my favourite quotes:

โ€œItโ€™s not whether you can survive politics by being thin-skinned, feeling like an imposter, and valuing kindness. Politics needs more of these traits. Politics needs more humility and needs more doubt.โ€

โ€œThe only thing stronger than imposter syndrome is a deep sense of responsibility.โ€

โ€œEmpathy is nothing without Actionโ€

โ€œMy main motivation was to save peoplesโ€™ lives, but I also wanted to keep people together. And I couldnโ€™t do both. Iโ€™ll never regret saving 20,000 lives.โ€

โ€œWhen I was grappling between staying in office and leaving, I told three people. None of them supported me. It was a lonely decision. Leaving felt like a selfish act, and I needed to justify it. But there was the responsibility of feeling depleted, and I was mindful of the consequences of leadership when I felt that sense of depletionโ€.

โ€œOptimism is an act of choice. Please hold onto your optimism; itโ€™s a courageous act in difficult times.โ€

โ€œThe butterfly effect of those people who influence your path, and those micro-moments that could lead you on a pathway.โ€

Would you do it again? โ€œI wouldnโ€™t do it differently, but I donโ€™t regret leaving.โ€

Itโ€™s great to be back in Riyadh after 7 years and reconnect with old friends and former program participants, many of whom are now in key roles shaping the Kingdomโ€™s future.

I recently spent a few fascinating days working with government leaders on Navigating the Next Normal: Beyond 2030. The pace of transformation here is remarkable, and it has sparked some deeper reflections on culture, identity and values.

As change accelerates, important questions arise: Who are we becoming? What values and behaviors will guide us? What do we want to carry forward from our past, and what is outdated and time to let go of? How do we honor this journey of transformational change from the inside out, ensuring our vision, belief systems, and actions stay aligned?

These reflections have me thinking about behavioral change in such a fast-evolving contextโ€”how it will unfold and whether it can keep pace with the transformation weโ€™re witnessing.

During this session on leveraging ๐‚๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž ๐š๐ฌ ๐š ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ž๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐€๐๐ฏ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ ๐ž to build stronger organizations, we dove deep into defining what company culture truly is (spoiler alert: it is so much more than just ping pong tables and freebies๐Ÿ˜‰). We also explored the invisible, hidden elements that shape company culture (and thatโ€™s an overwhelming 90%).

We also tackled the ๐ˆ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐œ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐“๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ฌ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ง ๐‚๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž and discussed the various ways teams respond to change. Resistance to change? It is more common than you might thinkโ€”and it can be a gift in disguise, waiting to be capitalized on ๐ŸŽฏ.

We ended by unpacking the ๐Ÿ“ ๐ƒ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ง๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐“๐ž๐š๐ฆ๐ฌ that are likely making your life (and many othersโ€™) more challenging than it needs to be.
