# Where the Path Becomes Visible #
After selling De Maesberg and buying our camper, we set off. Without a fixed plan, heading towards central France. We end up in a beautiful rural place where we are allowed to look after three horses and take care of the land for a while.
Nothing too grand: keeping the swimming pool clean, being the point of contact for the guests staying in the gîte, mowing the meadows, creating a compost heap and, above all, bringing a little new life to a forest that has been left without purpose.
And in the meantime, something else happens.
We discover how extraordinary it is to feel completely free physically, only to realise in the silence how much within ourselves is still not free at all. Once the distractions disappear and time opens up, the parts of ourselves that we normally so easily live over become visible too.
It is beautiful. And sometimes quite confronting.
Because when suddenly everything is possible, the motivation to do all those things you once dreamed of doing does not necessarily appear. And what you thought you wanted, simply because it once wasn’t possible, suddenly turns out not to be so important anymore.
We are now practising something that sounds much simpler than it actually is: living in the present moment.
Not planning everything ahead. Not needing to know where we will be three months from now. Because every time we try to create certainty, we notice how quickly we end up restricting ourselves again.
The temptation to take a little certainty with us is strong. But actually, we don’t need to.
And strangely enough, we are getting better and better at letting go.
Trusting what presents itself. Being available. Not trying to figure everything out ourselves, but listening to what life is showing us.
Our first destination after France will be Damanhur in Italy. A friend is involved there in helping to build a new community, and we would love to visit, feel what is emerging there and perhaps spend a few days becoming part of the flow.
After that, we are thinking of travelling further through Italy after September 10th. We are also considering visiting a friend in Hungary. So once again, there are all kinds of possible directions floating around in our heads.
And then, completely out of the blue, a message arrives from a friend in Slovenia.
She tells us about around a thousand wild horses living in Bosnia, who are struggling with water shortages because of the enormous drought.
We know almost immediately.
**We have to go there.**
Not because it was part of our plan.
Precisely because it wasn’t.
For years, we have also carried another idea with us: a documentary about horses and what we call the *Living Codex*.
Who are horses, when we need nothing from them?
What do they want to tell us?
Could horses be a bridge to something we, as human beings, have forgotten over the centuries, but which is still intact within them?
Horses have been intertwined with the human collective for thousands of years. They have carried us, fed us, helped us, fought wars alongside us and helped us build our civilisation. And yet, at the same time, they remain connected to something wild and free.
Perhaps that is exactly what fascinates us so much.
We don’t yet know exactly where this documentary will begin, or where it will take us. We trust that the path will become visible as we walk it.
The first step seems clear: finding a good documentary filmmaker. Someone who not only understands our idea, but truly feels it.
And there too, suddenly, a thread appears.
And now that same path is leading us towards Bosnia.
Towards a thousand wild horses.
Towards a place we originally had absolutely no intention of going.
And that is precisely what feels so extraordinary.
We also want to make this journey in a way that means we are not simply coming to take. That is why we are considering hiring local filmmakers in the different places where we film. People who know the land, the language and the culture, and who can help us capture the story of their own surroundings.
Perhaps that is one small way of giving something back for the trust, hospitality and beautiful places we are being welcomed into.
Because if we are truly allowed to be among those wild horses in Bosnia, we will also feel how extraordinary it is that there are still places in this world where horses can live freely. Places where something of their original nature is still visible.
And perhaps that is exactly what draws us there.
That is what we are looking for.
Not only horses, but places where something has not yet been completely defined, shaped or controlled by us humans.
Maybe this is exactly what our journey is about.
Not about the perfect route. Not about knowing where we will end up. But about being available for whatever presents itself.
Because again and again, we notice:
**When we try to figure everything out with our minds, things often turn out differently.
But when we let go, it seems that what truly belongs on our path appears almost by itself.**
So we are not taking a road trip through Italy simply because that was the plan.
We are travelling through Italy towards Bosnia.
Because apparently, life has something waiting for us there.
And we are curious to discover what it is going to show us.

**We moeten daarheen.**
Want steeds opnieuw merken we:
