Karlis Reisulis Fights His Way to Eighth Place at MXGP of Turkey
Karlis Reisulis of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team secured eighth place in the overall classification during the seventeenth round of the World Championship in Turkey. It was not his best weekend, but with ninth and seventh-place finishes, the Latvian rider once again achieved a top-ten result. His teammate Janis Reisulis finished fourteenth overall.
Following a weekend without racing, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team travelled to the hard-packed circuit of Afyonkarahisar. Both brothers quickly found their rhythm on the fast track, which featured numerous jumps. Karlis qualified in eighth place, while Janis finished sixth, placing two positions further forward.
In the opening race, Karlis started inside the top ten and worked his way up to seventh place. A number of mistakes then caused him to lose some ground. He eventually crossed the finish line in ninth place.
The second race was more consistent. Karlis started in seventh and managed to maintain that position throughout the entire race. With a 9-7 score, he finished eighth in the overall classification. With two Grands Prix remaining, he sits seventh in the MX2 World Championship standings.
Janis Reisulis experienced a more inconsistent weekend. After crashing on the opening lap of the first race, he had to fight his way back from last position. Showing strong pace, he worked his way through the field and eventually finished sixth. In the second race, things went wrong again on the opening lap. Janis crashed and broke his clutch lever. As he was unable to restart his Yamaha without outside assistance, he was ultimately disqualified. Janis was classified fourteenth overall and currently sits sixth in the championship standings.
Karlis Reisulis:�“It was a difficult weekend and, to be honest, I didn’t really feel like myself. Something was bothering me and I couldn’t find my normal feeling. The first race was very difficult. From the start, I struggled to focus on the race and made mistake after mistake. The second race started better, but I basically rode in the same position for the entire race. At times I got close enough to make an attack, but I couldn’t make the pass. It’s not a weekend to be proud of, but definitely one I can learn from.”
Janis Reisulis:�“The first race was quite good after I crashed on the opening lap. I came back from last place to sixth and was even close to fifth. My speed and intensity were really good. In the second race I felt strong again and had a decent start, but I crashed on the opening lap and broke my clutch lever. That meant I couldn’t restart the bike without outside assistance, which resulted in a disqualification. It is what it is. Obviously, that’s not how you want to finish a weekend, but I know the speed is there. Now we look ahead to China.”
For the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team, the World Championship continues next weekend with the penultimate round of the season. The MXGP of China will take place in Shanghai on September 12 and 13.
Karlis Reisulis knokt zich naar achtste plaats tijdens MXGP van Turkije
Karlis Reisulis van het Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team heeft tijdens de zeventiende ronde van het wereldkampioenschap in Turkije de achtste plaats in het dagklassement behaald. De Let kende niet zijn beste weekend, maar wist met een negende en zevende plaats opnieuw een top-tien resultaat te boeken. Teamgenoot Janis Reisulis eindigde als veertiende.
Na een weekend zonder wedstrijden reisde Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 af naar het harde circuit van Afyonkarahisar. Beide broers vonden snel hun draai op de snelle baan met veel sprongen. Karlis kwalificeerde zich als achtste, terwijl Janis met de zesde plaats twee posities verder naar voren eindigde.
In de eerste manche begon Karlis binnen de top tien en wist hij op te klimmen naar de zevende plaats. Een aantal fouten zorgde er vervolgens voor dat hij terrein verloor. Uiteindelijk kwam hij als negende over de finish.
De tweede manche verliep constanter. Karlis begon als zevende en wist deze positie gedurende de volledige wedstrijd vast te houden. Met een 9-7-score werd hij achtste in het dagklassement. Met nog twee Grands Prix te gaan staat hij zevende in de tussenstand van het MX2 wereldkampioenschap.
Janis Reisulis kende een wisselvalliger weekend. Na een crash in de eerste ronde van de openings manche moest hij vanaf de laatste plaats terugkomen. Met een sterk tempo knokte hij zich helemaal naar voren en wist hij uiteindelijk als zesde te finishen. In de tweede manche ging het opnieuw in de eerste ronde mis. Janis kwam ten val en brak daarbij zijn koppelingshendel. Omdat hij zijn Yamaha niet zonder hulp van buitenaf kon herstarten, volgde uiteindelijk een diskwalificatie. Janis werd als veertiende in het dagklassement geklasseerd en staat zesde in het kampioenschap.
Karlis Reisulis: “Het was een lastig weekend en ik voelde me eigenlijk helemaal niet mezelf. Er zat iets dwars en ik kon mijn normale gevoel niet vinden. De eerste manche was erg moeilijk. Vanaf de start had ik moeite om me op de wedstrijd te concentreren en maakte ik fout na fout. De tweede manche begon beter, maar ik reed eigenlijk de hele wedstrijd op dezelfde positie. Soms kwam ik dichtbij genoeg om een aanval te plaatsen, maar het lukte niet om de pass te maken. Het is geen weekend om trots op te zijn, maar absoluut wel een weekend waar ik van kan leren.”
Janis Reisulis: “De eerste manche was behoorlijk goed nadat ik in de eerste ronde was gevallen. Ik ben vanaf de laatste plaats teruggekomen naar de zesde positie en zat zelfs dicht bij de vijfde plaats. Mijn snelheid en intensiteit waren echt goed. In de tweede manche voelde ik me opnieuw sterk en had ik een behoorlijke start, maar ik crashte in de eerste ronde en brak mijn koppelingshendel. Daardoor kon ik de motor niet zonder hulp van buitenaf starten en dat betekende een diskwalificatie. Het is wat het is. Zo wil je een weekend natuurlijk niet afsluiten, maar ik weet dat de snelheid er is. Nu kijken we vooruit naar China.”
Voor het Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team gaat het wereldkampioenschap aankomend weekend verder met de voorlaatste ronde van het seizoen. Op 12 en 13 september staat de MXGP van China in Shanghai op het programma.
