Final day of the Sogo Budo International Summer Course in Cervo, Spain by Edgar Kruyning, Sogo Budo, the legacy of Minoru Mochizuki.

We concluded an inspiring weekend with a beach training session under clear blue skies and beautiful sunshine. Training in nature offers a unique atmosphere, reminding us that budo is not limited to the dojo—it is a way of life.

Today’s focus was on Kenjutsu, exploring the principles of the sword: distance, timing, precision, awareness, and control. These lessons extend far beyond the weapon itself and strengthen the foundations of all martial arts.

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated, trained with dedication, and contributed to the positive spirit throughout the seminar. Special thanks to the organizers for their hospitality and excellent organization. Edgar received a beautiful award from Miguel Angel Rojo Darriba in name of the organization 🙏

We leave Cervo with new knowledge, great memories, and friendships that continue to grow through budo.

Another inspiring day in Cervo, Galicia, dedicated to Yoseikan Aikido and Yoseikan Jujutsu by Edgar Kruyning.

Today we explored the connection between traditional principles and practical application, focusing on movement, timing, balance, and effective technique. It was a pleasure to share knowledge with such a motivated and enthusiastic group of budoka.

Thank you to all participants for your commitment, energy, and positive spirit on the tatami. Your dedication made this another memorable day. Edgar Kruyning also graduated Miguel Angel Rojo Darriba and Javier Pelaez 3rd dan Yoseikan jujutsu. They also received the teachers grade Rensi.

What an incredible start of the weekend in Cervo, Lugo, Spain! Three days of training with Edgar Kruyning (8th Dan Jujutsu, 8th Dan Judo, 7th Dan Aikido, and so much more). Today focused on self-defence.
One of the biggest takeaways: it’s not just about the physical techniques. Edgar emphasized that your first move should always be to try to de-escalate a situation — awareness, distance, and calm communication go a long way before anything physical is needed.
But he was just as clear about the flip side: if you’re attacked without warning, there’s no time to think — you have to react immediately and decisively. That balance between restraint and readiness was at the heart of everything we trained.
From classical budō to applied self-defence. But beyond the hard training, there was just as much laughter and connection with fellow budoka from all over.
Grateful for the knowledge shared and the community built this evening. 🙏

Ondanks de zomerse warmte was de opkomst op Papendal uitstekend. Met ruim 30 deelnemers op de tatami werd er tijdens de training van de Nationale Graden Commissie Judo met veel inzet en enthousiasme gewerkt. 🥋

Edgar Kruyning verzorgde samen met zijn medecommissieleden van de Nationale Graden Commissie Judo deze training voor de Judo Bond Nederland. De gezamenlijke inzet en betrokkenheid zorgden voor een waardevolle en geslaagde bijeenkomst.

Een mooie afsluiting van het seizoen, voordat het zomerreces begint.
