Dear people, every week, on Tuesday at 19:00 I will start to give Pilates training.

It is a holistic method, drawing from both Eastern and Western philosophies. It requires you to focus your mind on individual muscles in your body so as to strengthen and lengthen them. As you move, this concentration and precision creates a mind-body connection. The additional mental focus means the muscles work to the maximum, so you get better, quicker results.
Forming a mind-body connection is used to great effect in professional sport, for example, where just by shifting mental focus, a very good player can become an outstanding player. Pilates can give you that same mental breakthrough which will then allow your body to get into the best physical shape it can possibly be.

If in the most classic sense, and to simplify, then the movements in Pilates are more dynamic and are aimed at strengthening the muscles, while stretching is static poses and is aimed at stretching. But this is not always the case and there may be different types of Pilates and stretching.

In my classes, the balance is approximately this: 65% - muscle tone; 35% - stretching. All exercises are done slowly, with controlled breathing, gentle warming up, stretching muscles through breathing and soft dynamic movements, working out the respiratory muscle of the diaphragm, and always finishing with stretching poses. Therefore, I think this is a good balance for the work of muscles and the body as a whole system.

There was a reason why Joseph Pilates was strict with his exercise sequence. This, however, is now considered the ‘classical’ understanding of Pilates. I am the teacher who is more inclined to modify not only some of the exercises themselves (particularly for beginners), but the order in which they are rolled out. The reason for this also depends on ability and the physical problems experienced by my students. Certainly, without modifications, many people participating - older adults, osteoporotic patients or those suffering specifically located spinal trauma, as well as time-constrained individuals, etc., - would not be able to carry out the exercises effectively and safely.

Either way, the difference from the original path does not eliminate his philosophy foundation - three essential elements of the breath, whole-body health and whole-body commitment. And 8 principles of Pilates:

Concentration
Centring
Breathing
Control
Precision
Alignment
Flow
Routine

Nonetheless, I think it is important to know how Joseph Pilates intended his 34 contrology exercises to be demonstrated and his thinking behind that order.
