The specialist team of podiatrists and bike fitters at Feet Lab in the Netherlands have been measuring athlete’s feet for generations, creating a reputation for excellence, alongside bespoke solutions that perfectly balance comfort and performance.

For our latest blog, we spoke with current Feet Lab manager, Steven, to find out more about this unique cycling footwear experts, and why they recommend Lake as the frequent solution for cyclists seeking that perfect ride.

Lake Sport™️ shoes are the result of joining European tradition with advanced American design, utilizing the best materials from around the world. Starting with a newly designed American last, Lake Sport™️ has taken the best of Europe and improved on it While other shoes using modern techniques and materials have brought major improvements in weight, stiffness and durability, they have also resulted in a major reduction in comfort. Old style leather shoes conformed to the shape of the foot and absorbed moisture, but were relatively heavy and wore out quickly. Modern materials, while light weight and durable, do not conform to the shape of the foot and are not intrinsically absorbant.
A shoe’s ability to absorb moisture is
important since moisture buildup is in large part responsible for the occurance of “hot spots” Conformity of the shoe and foot provides full support and effective transmission of power from your foot to the pedal.
Several unique design features have been incorporated into Lake Sport™️ shoes, which allow them to offer the best of both worlds.
All Lake Sport™️ shoes come with insoles of dense EVA
foam lined with Cambrelle™️ covers.
The EVA foam allows the insole to conform to and support
the shape of the foot without absorbing the energy of the pedal stroke.
The Cambrelle™️ lining
wicks away moisture, allowing the foot to stay dry and comfortable, even while riding all out.
Recent studies in biomechanical science have indicated that knee stress-the most common cycling related injury- can be caused by the way the foot sits in the shoe. In many cases riders have been using Orthotics to correct this problem. Orthotics simply don’t fit into most cycling shoes. From the start, Lake Sport™️ shoes have been designed to accomodate Orthotics.
Researched and developed in all types of races in both Europe and the U.S., Lake Sport™️ shoes have passed the test from time trials and stage races to the World Championships.

Why does Lake use Paris Point sizing? 👟📏

Lake Cycling shoes are sized using the Paris Point system, a traditional European footwear measurement where each full size represents approximately 6.67mm.

But here’s where Lake goes a step further…

We offer half sizes, meaning each step in our EU sizing — for example, 42 → 42.5 → 43 — represents approximately 3.3mm between sizes.

That might sound like a tiny difference, but when you’re trying to achieve a precise cycling shoe fit, a few millimetres can make a big difference.

Half sizing allows you to fine tune the length rather than jumping a full size and potentially ending up in a shoe that’s too long.
And remember, getting the right size is only part of getting the right fit:

📏 Length – helped by our extensive full and half size range

↔️ Width – Narrow, Regular and Wide options across selected models

🦶 Shape – different lasts for different foot shapes

📦 Volume – because two feet with the same length aren’t necessarily the same size or shape

Why narrow cycling shoes cause pain

Fundamentally, narrow cycling shoes do not produce more power. What they can produce is more pain, discomfort, hotspots, bunions and long-term damage to your feet.
