Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir

The preparations have finished, and we're ready for day 1 of the Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir! On Saturday the U18 will fight to become todays champions. Around 25% of the competitors have opted in for the pre-weighing on Friday. Good luck and get ready for the 48th edition of the Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir!

We are facing severe winter weather conditions (snow).
However, it seems that the weather conditions will improve on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
When you plan to arrive at Eindhoven airport, we do not foresee any delays.
When you arrive at the Schiphol airport, there might be delays or cancellations.
When you use the train, please check the website of the Dutch railway company NS for any delays.
And when you arrive by car, please closely check the road conditions to see the expected duration of your trip.

Just a couple of days left and the biggest tournament in Europe for the U15, U18 and U21 will start. Just a few reminders.
- Brackets with 2 judokas will run best 2 out of 3
- Brackets with up to 5 judokas will run Round Robin
- All other brackets will run Full Repachage with the following exceptions; Men U18 -55, -60, -66 and -73 kg and Men U21 -66, -73 and -81 kg will run the Brazillian system.

More than 1000 male judokas have subscribed for the Espoir tournament.

Because of the many judokas, we are forced to use the Brazilian system for the following age/weight categories:
• Men U18: -55, -60, -66 and -73 kg (each has more than 76 judokas per category)
• Men U21: -66, -73 and -81 kg. (each has more than 47 judokas per category)
The remaining categories, with 6 or more judokas, will use the double elimination system.
In categories up to 5 judokas, the poule-system is used (one fight against each judoka).

Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir 2026 update!

The weigh-in and contest schedules have been published already on https://dutchopenespoir.nl. And with more than 1500 athletes from all over Europe, this edition is going to be another big one.

Important to all clubs: weight changes can be submitted until December 31 at 23:59. So before the fireworks starts flying, make sure the weight categories are all set.

More than 1500 judokas have been registered for the tournament!
Due to this large number of judokas we are forced to use the Brazilian system as tournament type for the largest categories of Men U18 and Men U21. So for these categories, there is only repechage for losers of the semi-finalist. For all other categories we will use the double-elimination system. Check the picture for more details.

On 10 and 11 January 2026, the 48th edition of the Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir Judo tournament will take place.

Because of several issues that clubs (and we) have (had) when subscribing judokas online, we will extend the period for registration to 4 December 2025.

To register new judokas, please send an e-mail to [email protected].

After such registration the club receives a mail with a link to pay for the subscriptions.
