International Dutch Hickory Open

After long and serious consultation it was decided that the IDHO will, notwithstanding Covid-19, be held in 2020 on September 11.
Covid-19 does pose some limitations however: no reception and no dinner and a necessary minumum of at least 10 players.

But all hickory lovers are welcome on Saturday, September 12 on the Ullerberg estate to match their skills at keeping the distance between themselves and the other to the max!

IDHO These are strange times and the world seems actively concerned to prove 11 to be the 'number of fools'. Despite the somewhat bizarre circumstances we still aim to organise the 11th IDHO this year, albeit in a necessarily more limited format than previous editions.

With the IDHO drawing near, the wildlife of the Ullerberg estate is also rising to the occasion.
Last year a badger decided to improve the already challenging greens of the Heidegolf.
This year a wild boar decided to add a little natural diversity to the greens surfaces.
Everything is done to repair the somewhat significant damage but players must be prepared for some special putting rules to soften the onslaught of the animal.

As you may have noticed, The functionality and the availability of the IDHO website has not been very dependable lately.
Today we hope to have fixed all the issues and that the site will function as it was intended to do (which does not mean that said functionality may still baffle many users).

Note that the IDHO site also hosts the registration for the Nunspeet Hickory Championship on the Sunday following the IDHO.

On Sunday, July 2nd, I visited the 2nd Hickory Tournament on the 'Nunspeetste' organised by Brian Gee. Played under increasingly pleasant weather conditions on a beautiful course, I had the pleasure to meet old friends like Wilma van Rijn, Lily Waller, Perry Somers, Peter Scholz, Auke Hempenius, Andre Dubbeldam, Jeroen Manders and Brian Gee and some new hickory fans. A very nice, intimate affair with an excellent high tea afterwards. I had the honor of caddying for Wilma for a few holes and saw her press Peter Scholz to new hickory heights which made him the winner of the tournament.

Monday, December 13, saw the birth of the Dutch Hickory Society.
This ancient society (since 2016) was established by John Ott, Auke Hempenius, Brian Gee, Iain Forrester, Davey van Mulken, Menno Beelen and Elbert Waller (in spirit only as he was travelling in South Korea).
