THERE’S ALWAYS A NEXT STEP 🄵 First you run to the end of the street and wonder how anyone could possibly enjoy this?! Then you run 5K. Your first 10K. A half marathon. Your first marathon.
And before you know it, you’re training for an ultra. So what’s next?

Your first multi-day trail! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼
The Liberation Trail is made for that next step. Three days of trail running through Normandy, in a relaxed atmosphere with people who understand exactly why you’re there. Day one eases you in with 19K. Day two brings 45K. And then you wake up on day three with 51K ahead of you. Your legs are heavy. Everything hurts a little. For a moment you wonder how you’re going to pull this off. And then you start… Your body remembers what to do. After a couple of kilometres, you find your rhythm. Around you are runners going through exactly the same thing. The kilometres pass, the Normandy landscape opens up and suddenly that tired body feels pretty damn capable again.
Tomorrow you’ll be back at work 🄲

Tired. Proud. Smiling from ear to ear.
This is what it feels like to be alive! 21, 22 and 23 May 2027

ā€˜I thought it would be one long, boring straight line along the beach. But it’s quite the opposite. There are short climbs and descents, and sometimes a moment to reflect beside a bunker or gun emplacement. And there’s much more gravel underfoot than soft sand.’
- Sabine, Liberation Trail participant

IT’S NOT ALL BEACHES. FAR FROM IT.

The Liberation Trail takes you through the surprisingly varied landscape of Normandy: along the D-Day beaches, over cliffs and gravel tracks, and through the bocage – a maze of small fields, sunken lanes and narrow trails enclosed by thick hedgerows. One moment you’re running with open views across the coast, the next you’re climbing through a sheltered green corridor. It’s this constant change of landscape, terrain and history that makes every stage a different adventure.

Three days on the trails of Normandy. One experience that stays with you long after you cross the finish. Liberation Trail is about moving through a landscape that changed history. Along beaches, cliffs, fields and villages where freedom was fought for in 1944.

Run it. Hike it. Take your time. Push yourself.

The distance is yours to cover, the experience is shared. Along the way, history becomes more than something you read about. You stand where it happened, hear the stories behind the places and experience Normandy step by step.

Roy Stevens had one last chance to shake his twin brother’s hand.
He didn’t take it.

Before D-Day, Ray offered his hand to his twin brother Roy. He said: 'No, there's no need for. We’ll shake hands when we meet again in Vierville.'

They never did.

Roy survived the landing at Omaha Beach. Ray was killed on D-Day. Days later, Roy returned to the beach and found his brother’s grave. He would later say: 'I wish now I had shaken his hand...'

It’s these small, personal stories that make history real.

Before every stage of Liberation Trail 2027, Herco, our historyteller, brings the landscape to life with a story connected to the ground you’re about to run through.

Then you run it.

2027 can be your year you experience these places for yourself.
