Driemboys shine in home opener ⚾⚾🏟️🏟️

On the first glorious day in April your favorite Driemboys denied DVH (De Vliegende Hollanders) permission for take-off as we clipped their wings 12-9 in our home opener. Coach Balk raised the balk…uh bar on coaching – tippy-toeing around some damn near impossible line-up decisions. In his postgame interview Balk would later comment: “Of course there’s always a couple of nerves and jitters involved when you’re looking at the first game of the year – especially with our star-studded roster – but when you’ve been in the game almost as long as Hans van Driel Krol you learn a solution will always present itself“. With an array of pristine Howitzers at his disposal Coach Balk gave the nod to his lefty hurler Thijs ‘Tuna’ Tonnon. The steadfast yellowfin took the bait splashing five runs over five innings in which he gave up just nine hits, whilst striking out three and walking one. Piggy-bagging Tuna was Will ‘The Thrill’ Jelsma, taking care of the last 12 outs from the bullpen. The Thrill gave up a measly eight hits, walking one and striking out one as well. At the dish Bas ‘MLBas’ van Driel Krol singled in René ‘Creamer’ Cremer for the first run of the game. A special day for MLBas as his dad (the aforementioned Hans) would later throw out the first pitch in our 1st teams home opener. Hans played in Kinheim’s first team for 22 seasons and fulfilled a pivotal role in winning us the first national championship in 1978. Furthermore MLBas celebrated his 40th birthday the night before. By doing so he joins an elite company of saggy and middle aged Driemteam-sluggers. As if that wasn’t enough though, he brought all ladies in the place (Cleeff) down to tears with one of the most honest and heartfelt proposals to his girlfriend (and now fiancée) Vianne. 😍😍😍Congratulations MLBas and Fiancée Vianne! We look forward to the party 👊👊👊 However the soon to be married newest member of our 40-40 club wasn’t the only one poking his wood around. Other notable performances came at the hands of Matthijs ‘El Cato Gigante Dusso’ van Dusschoten and Renso ‘Mothersday’ Mulder, who spanked out multiple hits apiece as well. Another notable moment came at the hands of our good friend and new Kinheim board member Michel Lub. Next to rolling out the future marketing strategy for our club this last Wednesday, he rolled out his first hit after a year of absence: what an absolute champion. Proud of you mate! There was plenty of action in the dugout as well. Your Driemboys are not just fertile at the plate, as our dugout starts to look more like a children’s daycare center every weekend. Changing diapers, wiping nappies and reading stories have become just as much part of our game as turning doubles, swiping bases and diving for ground balls. This proves once again that baseball is just great all round family entertainment and the best game in the world! ⚾⚾⚾
