For the longest time, I thought I just had a problem with food.
But looking back, I realize it was so much deeper than that.
Growing up in Peru, food was love. Food was culture. Food was family, celebration, comfort, connection. You don’t always grow up learning to listen to your body — sometimes you learn to finish what’s on your plate, to eat because someone offered you something with love, to never waste food, to keep going even when you’re already full.
And when those beliefs become part of you, saying “no, I’m full” can feel strangely difficult.
I’ve had to unlearn so much of what I thought was normal around food. Not because my culture was “wrong,” but because I had to figure out which beliefs actually served me… and which ones were keeping me disconnected from my body.
My journey with emotional eating has been less about learning how to control food and more about learning how to listen to myself.
And honestly, I’m still learning. 🤍
Maybe you can relate.
