One year ago my first birth as a doula. Happy first birthday, little girl. You're amazing ❤️

This page went suddenly really quiet. There is a reason: I've been hired by a company and I'm training to become a maternity nurse (sort of, the Dutch name is kraamverzogster). So, for the time being, I'm not getting new doula clients. But if you need information about the Dutch system or personalized childbirth classes,, feel free to contact me., I always love talking about birth, pregnancy and babies in front of a cup of tea. :)

In the Netherlands it's costumary to send a birth card to family and friends announcing the birth of the baby, their name, date of birth and sometimes weight and length. Some parents use a picture of the baby, some other use a simple card. My heart melted today, when I opened my letter box and found one from a client and her family, with the picture of their precious little boy.
But even without it, I can assure I will never forget their babies and the moment they were born.

I love meeting new potential clients, especially when they're expecting their first baby. The joy, the fear, the expectations, the love in their eyes when they look at each other. Words after words a connection is created, they start relaxing, you start relaxing and at the end you really hope they will hire you because you already like them a lot and you would really like to see them becoming a family.
Today I met a beautiful young couple, and let me tell you: this particular baby is going to be a very lucky one ❤️

Today I had the pleasure to follow a Spinning Babies® workshop in Amsterdam with "our" beloved Jennifer Walker. Together with other doula colleagues, midwives and yoga teachers we learned new "tricks' to support our clients even better during pregnancy and labor.

This amazing woman labored for hours without a single sound escaping her mouth. Her husband and I looked at each other in amazement, she looked beautiful, fierce, strong. With every wave I'd stroke her back gently while she leaned on her husband's, music was playing but for the rest we were all silent. I felt I wasn't doing enough but she didn't need more than I was doing, and often being there is enough. Only towards the end I helped her a little suggesting to lift her belly and tuck her spine to make room for the baby as labor stalled for two hours at 9 cm. Within 3 waves, she started grunting, a sign that the she was finally feeling the urge to push, we called the midwife who said she was fully dilated and in 3 pushes baby was here. Abd I'm forever grateful that I had the honor to meet them all,, a most beautiful family. Welcome baby, you're so loved.

I love this song, it describes so well the feelings of a woman in labor. To all my past, present and future clients, you roar!
