Dansateliers, situated in the center of Rotterdam (The Netherlands), is a professional dance space for research and development in contemporary dance.

Dansateliers is a house for the development of contemporary dance in Rotterdam, NL. We offer the possibility for emerging dance makers to research and investigate in their search for their identity as a creative dance artist and their signature as the author of an artwork. In our opinion it is crucial to give space to Research and Development to further develop and eventually innovate an art form. Every maker who will be working under our umbrella is actively seeking to push boundaries, to turn existing forms inside out and to find the edges of the discipline. Our studio is a place for dance professionals and audiences to meet, greet and work. We organise weekly open movement classes for non-professionals, which gives them the opportunity to work with the dance artists who are working on their research project. Incidentally we organise jams and workshops.

On the night of November 19, Shaquille George and Vincenzo Turiano will meet each other at Theater Kikker, and both will share a work in progress. ✨

After their presentation, they will have a conversation with each other about their journey as dance choreographers, and you might get to ask them a question or two! 💬

Shaquille will be presenting parts of their performance Nos Bida, which we have already given you some sneak peeks from a while back. 🌱👀

❤️ Say hello to our artist-in-residence, Kinga Jaczewska. She has had a one-week residency at Dansateliers at the start of October to explore her research. We are happy to invite her back for her second week with us. 🤩

Kinga (PL/BE) is a choreographer, dancer, and artist whose work explores the politics of visibility. In her work, she explores what is seen, overlooked, or escapes attention, and why. Kinga studied at London Contemporary Dance School and Northern School of Contemporary Dance in the UK, and at P.A.R.T.S. (Research Cycle) in Brussels.

In 2024, she created BRUT, a dance work, and Dry Dances, a site-specific work emerging from the research behind the piece. She is currently developing her new choreographic work figures.

In her first week residency with Dansateliers, Kinga met our movement class community and hosted a movement class. She also took this time to work with dancer Anika Edström Kawaji and explore her new choreographic work figures. 🛠️💬🌱

During her second week of her residency, Kinga will dive into her visual practice, and we are excited to see what will grow from this period with us. ✨

On October 17, dramaturgs in residence Mona De Weerdt and Valerie Wrns will be launching their platform, Wandering Dramaturgies. 🌱😱

Wandering Dramaturgies is a platform founded by Mona and Valerie that shines a spotlight on dramaturgy and dramaturgical practices in dance. ✨🩰

We invite everyone to join us from 19:00 for a bowl of soup and a sparkling celebration of the platform starting at 20:00, with music, snacks, and drinks. 🪩 🍸 🎶

Everyone curious about the platform is welcome to party with us. 🤩👀

We will party till 22:00 at Dansateliers! Please note that we serve drinks for a small price at our bar.

🌱 Our dramaturgs in residence are back at Dansateliers, and we are excited to share that they have been cooking up something very interesting.

Mona De Weerdt and Valerie Wehrens continued their research on Wandering Dramaturgies, formerly known as Doing Dramaturgy. 🤩

Throughout their research, Mona De Weerdt and Valerie Wrns found that dramaturgs rarely have the opportunity to exchange practical insights with their colleagues. 🎭✨

So to bring this community together, Mona and Valerie invite dramaturgs and those working in dramaturgical positions to join their two-day work gathering on October 16 and 17 to foster encounters, exchange, methods, and tools. 🛠️🧰🌼🌷

If you have always wanted to meet other dramaturgs and share experiences and wisdom, this work gathering could be the right place for you! There are limited seats available, so don’t wait too long. 🎟️
