To kick of this academic year we’re holding 2 intro clinics for new (and old) members. You’ll get to know fellow newcomers, learn the basics of the sport and get a feel for the people in Spartacus.

Candidate Board 2025/2026

Congratulations to our latest Spartan of the month, Radu! To get to know him better, we asked him some questions.

What would you say to convince someone to join Spartacus?
Probably that everyone here is a bunch of sweet wholesome nerds and are not as intimidating as they might look, it’s an amazing community that will definitely leave a lasting positive impact on your life should you decide to join and stick with it 😊

What advice would you give to a new (or prospective) member of Spartacus who is just starting their fitness journey?
Join a strength meet, it’s fun, theres no entry requirements, everyone will cheer you on and it’s a great kickstart to your lifting journey. If it wasn’t for Milan showing me videos and talking me into joining my first strength meet when I started a few years ago I probably wouldn’t have had such a good experience in the association and met everyone that I call friends now

What are your training goals at the moment?
Other than a broad get stronger and bigger, I’d like to qualify for NSK at some point in the distant future, maybe end of 2025 or sometime in 2026 😊

Who is your gym idol?
This is a bit of a shoutout but everyone in Spartacus has had and continues to have a positive contribution on me and my life in some way or another, which I look back on fondly and will be eternally grateful for. I look up to and like to think I’ve taken something away from everyone I met and gotten to know over the years. Namedropping everyone would be a bit lengthy so you all know who you are 😉

During the Easter weekend, a bunch of Spartans competed at the SBD Paascup in Nijmegen 🐣. They set some incredible PRs and some qualified for competitions such as Junior Nationals and NSK later this year. It was a lovely weekend full of support from fellow Spartans!

A while ago Matthijs competed in EUPC. He got an absolute massive total and did such an amazing job! 🦍🦍

Congratulations to our latest Spartan of the month, Chloë! To get to know her better, we asked her some questions.

What is your favourite exercise?
I love any exercise to train my biceps and triceps. The pumps I get from it is what keeps me going in the gym🤠

What initially got you into working out?
At first, I started to go to the gym to stay fit during summer and become stronger while playing soccer. Eventually I started to like the gym more than soccer.

Do you have any pre-workout rituals or routines that help you get into the right mindset?
I am actually very spiritual, so whenever I have to get into the right mindset I meditate. For example, the day before my competition I had already done the whole competition in my mind to help me manifest good results.

What’s your proudest fitness achievement so far, and why does it stand out to you?
During SBD paascup, my first powerlift competition, I managed to do a 135kg deadlift. This was a 15kg PR in just 2 months. I had never expected to pull this much, so for me this really proves that I am capable of much more than I think.

It is finally time for the long awaited Spartacantus. To celebrate the end of the academic year, the 19th of June we will have a cantus at the Boekanier.
