Trollheimen Skitouring

Veibeskrivelse Nettsted

Trollheimen Skitouring Trollheimen Skitouring is a company based out of Trondheim and Bodø, Norway. We offer ski guide ser A passion for the mountains. A passion for skiing.

Our Story:
Like most stories, this one starts with a passion. A passion to learn. And a passion to educate and inspire others. Trollheimen Skitouring is a Trondheim-based company founded by a pair of passionate backcountry skiers. Like many stories, it does not have a clear trajectory. However, what is clear is that the evolution that eventually led to the formation of this company stemmed from a shared passion that, over the years, has inspired a countless number of deep discussions, shared adventures, and empty micro brews. Many of these adventures started in the mountains in and around Trollheimen and our experiences have given us a perspective that we bring into our business. As the numbers of skiers in the mountains grow we recognize that these increased numbers carry with them increased risk. An uneducated and unaware community of backcountry enthusiasts puts lives unnecessarily at risk. And as our interest in the sport grows, our awareness of the complexity of avalanches and backcountry accidents has necessitated an investment in greater understanding. The backcountry community still has much to learn. And our belief is that increasing general knowledge will only help to support a better understanding and a safer, more enjoyable experience. Our many years of skiing in and around the mountains of Trollheimen have only reinforced this. That is why at Trollheimen Skitouring, our mission is to provide the tools necessary to facilitate and inspire a generation of educated and aware backcountry enthusiasts...and to have as much fun as possible along the way. Our Services:
At Trollheimen Skitouring, our main services are centered around avalanche courses and snow science. We offer a variety of set courses at all levels covering avalanche awareness, snowpack assessment, and backcountry first aid. Many of our courses, particularly at the beginner level, also incorporate skills in ski technique and the use of a variety of backcountry tools and equipment. Our courses focus on practical skills and we therefore try to spend as much time as possible outside, on our skis (or boards) and in the snow and limit our time in the classroom. We believe that it is in the backcountry environment where the best learning takes place! Our courses are generelly held in the Trollheimen and Sunndalsøra mountains. However, we do organize courses in other areas. We do also arrange custom courses. If interested, please contact us so we can discuss the details. We also provide custom tours in the backcountry and are able to plan, organize, and lead backcountry skiing trips for large and small groups. These services are mostly reserved for the Norwegian backcountry, but organization for international trips is possible. If you are interested in such a trip, please contact us so that we can discuss our options. Who We Are:
Bastien and Daniel, the founders of Trollheimen Skitouring, have over 30 years of skiing and climbing experience in alpine environments. This experience ranges from competitive alpine racing at the international level, to alpine climbing in Europe and North America, to backcountry skiing experience in Europe, Asia, and North America. We have particularly extensive experience in the mountains of central and northern Norway as well as the French alps and Sierra Nevadas and Cascades of the western United States. We also hold extensive experience with wilderness first aid and rescue systems as well as advanced level avalanche certifications. This experience includes different snow-safety "cultures" (i.e. Norway vs Alps vs North America). We also have many years of combined experience leading and instructing in various settings, including the recreational backcountry. We are therefore well prepared to take good care of our students and clients in the backcountry as well as share our knowledge and experience.

"We took a walk into the unknown and came out taller than the mountains in which we roamed...."

Ok, its not quite the way Thoreau first said it but its my own variation.

The last couple days we have walked into stormy, foggy mountains with employees from without really knowing how the days would turn out, and I feel safe to say that everyone came out of it with a deeper and more rewarding experience than they expected.

Thanks to for being logistical magicians, to all the great guests from and to great colleagues for a nice couple days! ...too bad my camera decided to go on strike and this was the only usable picture i got all weekend 😅

Until next time!

Short condition report Øksendalen: very good ski conditions on north sides (Fløtatind and Litlskjorta) with 10-20cm light dry powder on top of hard to very hard surface. South side of Litlskjorta was variable, quite wind affected and no melting. We found an obvious 15cm thick wind slab in the final part of Fløtatind (east slope open to south winds).

What happens when meet for a course?

Well we spend a week nerding out in snow pits, finding (and skiing) all kinds of (good and not so good) snow, and eat extravagant amounts of good food with good people and great instructors ...always humbling to learn new tricks from (young and old) dogs who have been out a day or 2 🙏🙌
Until next time (in just 2 short weeks)... 😅🤘🎿🎿

Snow report Ruten 10 Dec: little snow for this time of the year. Between 30 and 50cm overall, no base. On the normal route (N then NE), wind affected snow from tree line. Lots of variation, between hardback and fresh powder snow. In the East bowl, good light powder snow. Skiing is ok if being careful, lots of sharks. Surface hoar widespread in the bowl. -12deg at the parking at kl10.
