See the Alta River from a different perspective.
Our guided canoe tours take you along the legendary Alta River, where the pace is set by the water. Paddle through calm stretches surrounded by forests, mountains, and the quiet rhythm of an Arctic summer.
During the daily pause in salmon fishing, the river becomes especially peaceful—a unique opportunity to experience one of Northern Norway’s most iconic rivers from a completely different perspective.
Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with family, or with friends, canoeing is one of our favourite ways to experience summer in Alta.
Slow down. Paddle a little further. Take it all in.

Experience the quieter side of the Alta River. 🌱
Summer on the Alta River is a special time of year. People from around the world come here to fish for the legendary Atlantic salmon, and for a few hours each day—from 12:00 to 18:00—the fishing pauses and the river «rests» and becomes wonderfully peaceful.
At GLØD, we have a deep appreciation for the salmon fishing traditions on the Alta River. When the river takes its daily pause, we do too—heading out by canoe to experience this remarkable place while respecting both the river and those who fish it.
It’s the perfect time to explore by canoe.
Glide gently along one of Norway’s most famous salmon rivers, learn about its history and traditions, watch life unfold along the riverbanks, and experience the Arctic from a different perspective.
The river has its own rhythm.
We simply feel lucky to be part of it. 🤍

When the Midnight Sun comes out. 🌞
Summer in Alta has been a little cooler and cloudier this year. That’s life in the Arctic — you never quite know what the weather will bring.
But then the clouds clear. The evening light turns golden. And we find ourselves out on the trail with our huskies and guests, enjoying the Midnight Sun. 🐾
These are the evenings we remember.
Not only for the views, but for the people we share them with. Somewhere between walking the trails, laughing along the way, and spending long evenings outdoors, new friendships are often made. 🤍
That’s a big part of our Arctic Living Active Holiday.
Good people. Happy huskies. Long summer evenings in Alta.
Sometimes, that’s all you need.

🌿 One of the things we hear most from our guests?
“We didn’t expect Northern Norway to be so green.”
When people think of the Arctic, they often picture snow, ice, and endless white landscapes.
But summer in Alta tells a different story.
Lush forests, wildflowers, winding rivers, mountain trails, and endless daylight beneath the Midnight Sun.
It’s one of the many reasons we love sharing summer with our guests—whether we’re exploring the trails by mountain bike, hiking with our huskies, canoeing the Alta River, or simply slowing down to enjoy the view.
The Arctic has many sides. Summer might just be our favourite. 🤍
Come and discover Arctic Living with us.

Heia Norge. 🇳🇴 Vi ror for Norway — and for the salmon.
Summer days on the Alta River have their own rhythm.
The sound of the oars, quiet moments on the water, and the hope that a salmon might be waiting beneath the surface.
This week, we’re cheering a little extra for Norway — both on the football pitch and out here on the river.
Heia Norge. Vi ror videre. 🤍
