Martial Art of Awareness - Norway Martial Art of Awareness. There is nothing to learn, nothing to accumulate. The training process, is merely to recognize and realize what is already there.

I Liq Chuan (literally translated as Mental-Physical Martial Art) is an art of cultivating consciousness based on Tai Chi and Chan (Zen) principles of non-assertion, non-resistance, harmony of yin and yang, oneness and the present moment. In the universe all things are created by conditions and function through the energy of yin and yang. The whole universe has yin and yang energy. When yin and yang energy is balanced, they are harmonized. Students are taught the art through philosophy and a series of exercises in order to learn to recognize and discipline the inner energy flow (Chi). Developing this art benefits the whole nervous and intrinsic systems and brings total control, harmony and awareness to the mind and body. By understanding the harmony (yin and yang) of the body, recognizing the limits of the structure, the movement in each of the three dimensional planes of cycles, the student transforms this internal energy into internal power, accumulating Chi which propels the appropriate natural body movements. I Liq Chuan makes you aware of your strength, its limits, and the best use of your strength for self-defense. As a system of Kung Fu, I Liq Chuan emphasizes the development of internal power through mental attitude and awareness. The training develops stic king and merging abilities, circular spiral energy, Chin Na, F'a Jing, Chi Kung, and most importantly, integration of the mind's complete awareness in the present moment –be it in daily life or any situation. The “inner feel” is cultivated first, and then the appropriate external movement is merely an expression of the developed “inner feel”. Practitioners of I Liq Chuan integrate this art into their daily lives to maintain their awareness by not hurting themselves or others. The awareness developed reveals the nature of everything. Thus, the student understands cause and effect in life and has the ability to maintain the “right understanding” in all situations. Right mindfulness is the mental state of being neutral, formless, and in the present. It is a state (Wu Chi) of being emotionless and unattached to but being aware of the physical world.

Awareness buys you time, and time buys you options.

GM Sam Chin says, “It’s as if you are moving in slow motion.”

Your opponent is not moving more slowly.

What changes is your ability to recognize the process before it becomes a problem.
Most people experience an attack as sudden: a hand appears, pressure arrives, balance breaks, and they react after the fact.

But when your awareness is connected to the moment, you begin to perceive the steps inside what once felt instantaneous.

GM Chin explains that when you are truly in the moment, events can seem to slow down—not because time changes, but because you perceive the process more clearly. What feels sudden to one person becomes a sequence of recognizable changes to another.

That is why we train slowly.

Slow training teaches the mind to recognize change while it is still small.

Then, when things speed up, you do not need faster reflexes.

You need clearer awareness.

Fall in love with the process.
There is no finish line.

Martial arts is an endless embodied puzzle.

Every answer reveals another question.
Something you struggled with yesterday becomes obvious today—only to expose another layer you couldn’t see before.

GM Sam Chin says, "The secrets protect themselves. Even if I tell you the secrets, if you're not ready, you won't get it."

And even when you return to something you’ve practiced a thousand times, it isn’t really the same.

As the old saying goes:
“You can’t step into the same river twice.”

The water has changed, and so have you.

That’s why the journey to mastery isn’t reaching some imaginary destination where there’s nothing left to learn.

It’s developing the curiosity to keep looking deeper.

Zoom in, then zoom in again.

Everybody is looking for a shortcut.

There are no shortcuts on the journey to mastery.
