Flashback to when we fished the River Varmá back in September 2021 - a thermal spring river known for it's larke resident and migratory brown trout. The river has since been closed to an E-coli outbreak and will - unfortunately - remain closed for at least another 2-3 years.

The Seychelles is the perfect place to test a saltwater fly reel. And the Lamson Hyperspeed, with its ultra-large-arbor design and silky-smooth brake system, has proven itself an amazing reel for targeting bonefish and permit with light tippets.

So, what is an HD Lamson fly reel? It originally meant a Heavy Duty reel, but a more precise term is a Full Frame reel. The Full Frame does in deed make the reel more sturdy and apt for heavy duty fishing, but aside from improving the integrity of the reel structure (and also to some extent making for more stable winding and braking), the Full Frame design also prevents thin running lines (especially flat mono lines) from getting caught between the frame and spool - something that can be potentially fatal. This final point is what makes HD reels so popular among people that swing for steelhead and Atlantic salmon (but also for those, who fish shooting heads along the coastal shores for sea-run brown trout).

Cooking for guests at a fly-fishing lodge is hard work. It means being the first one up every morning to prepare breakfast and the last one to go to bed, after all the dishes have been washed and the kitchen cleaned.
There are certain perks, though. For instance, the opportunity to sneak in a few hours of fishing at some of the hot spots close to camp.
Anders Vangen took full advantage of this while working as the cook at Erfalik Lodge in Greenland this summer. Here are some mobile-phone impressions from his trip, armed with his trusty Scott Centric rod and Lamson Hyperspeed F reel.

If you're looking for some great articles to read this weekend, here's your chance. We particularly enjoyed the piece about seatrout fishing in Iceland by Steffan Jones.
