Close to the peak, summer isn't always summer.

Avid mountaineer knows even when the valley is warm and sunny, conditions change rapidly the higher you go. On his recent ridge climb on Kopfkraxen, Austria, he experienced the full spread of Alpine weather.

"We were climbing and slept in our bivy bags near the ridge. With heavy wind and overall exciting conditions, we had everything from a light drizzle to fog and a full-on storm."
