From 1988 AFC Clash to 2025 Friendly Battle

The last time Nepal and Hong Kong met on the football pitch was way back in 1988, during the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers held at Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu. That encounter ended in a goalless draw (0-0), Nepal’s only point from a tough Group 3 featuring Iran, Syria, and North Korea.

Now, 37 years later, the two teams will clash again — this time in a FIFA International Friendly on June 5, 2025, at Hong Kong Stadium.

Both Nepal 🇳🇵 and Hong Kong 🇭🇰 are using this match as preparation for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 3rd Round. Nepal will face Laos on June 10, and the friendly match provides a crucial opportunity to test formations, build chemistry, and fine-tune strategies under pressure.

Breaking: US-based coach Pradip Humagain, the only Nepali-origin with a Pro License (CONMEBOL Argentina), has officially applied for the Nepal women’s national team head coach position.

ANFA had announced a vacancy seeking a Pro License holder, with a focus on preparing the team for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, set for June 2025.

Humagain, who recently migrated to the USA, is currently in Nepalgunj, observing players at the ongoing Lumbini Cup Women’s Football Tournament.
