During the Spring Everest Climbing Season this year, a total of 783 climbers, including guides, successfully summited Mount Everest.

This season recorded the highest number of climbing permits ever issued, making it one of the busiest Everest expeditions in history. From Mount Everest alone, the Government of Nepal collected approximately NPR 1.07 billion in revenue, highlighting the mountain’s major contribution to Nepal’s tourism and economy.

Despite the success, the season also witnessed tragedy, as 7 climbers lost their lives during the expedition. High altitude, unpredictable weather, and extreme conditions continue to make Everest one of the world’s most challenging and dangerous peaks.

The season was also marked by remarkable achievements and historic records. Legendary Nepali climber Kami Rita Sherpa successfully summited Everest for the 32nd time, extending his own world record as the person with the most Everest ascents in history. Similarly, Lhakpa Sherpa set another milestone by reaching the summit for the 11th time, becoming the woman with the highest number of Everest ascents.

These achievements once again showcase the courage, resilience, and extraordinary mountaineering skills of the Sherpa community and reinforce Nepal’s identity as the home of the world’s highest peak. 🏔️🇳🇵

A long line of climbers was seen ascending toward Camp III on 18 May as expedition teams prepared for their summit push around 20 May. 🏔️
With a favorable weather window opening on Everest, climbers are steadily moving higher on the mountain, carrying hopes, determination, and dreams of reaching the summit in the coming days.

Nepal Truly Is One of the World’s Most Extraordinary Places
Witnessing moments of affection among wild animals reminds us how remarkable nature truly is. Recently, a rare and heartwarming scene of one-horned rhinoceroses was captured along the banks of the Narayani River—a powerful symbol of Nepal’s rich natural heritage.
Nepal has achieved exemplary success in the conservation of the world’s rare one-horned rhinoceros in recent years. According to the national rhino census conducted in 2021, there were 694 rhinos in Chitwan National Park, with a total of 752 rhinos across the country.
The Government of Nepal has set an ambitious goal to double the rhino population by 2030, and various conservation initiatives are underway at the national level. However, the increasing number of rhino deaths in recent times suggests that achieving this target will not be easy.
Amid these challenges, a rare and beautiful sight was recently observed along the Narayani River: a male rhino, a mother rhino, and her calf peacefully roaming together along the riverbank. Such scenes offer hope and reaffirm the importance of continued conservation efforts.
Nepal has not conducted a nationwide rhino census since 2021. With indications that the rhino population may be increasing, there is growing demand for a new census to accurately assess current numbers and guide future conservation strategies.
