Looking at the current points table and the remaining matches, Nepal still has a realistic chance not only to save ODI status but also to push for the Top 4 spot for direct qualification to the ODI World Cup Qualifier. 🇳🇵🏏
The race is still very open because teams around Nepal are also dropping important points against each other. That is why every remaining match now feels like a final.
Nepal’s next series against Namibia and Netherlands could be the turning point of this entire campaign. These matches will be played in European conditions, which are always challenging for Asian teams. Swing, seam movement, cold weather, and slower batting conditions will test Nepal’s technique, patience, and mentality.
Netherlands are especially dangerous at home because they understand those conditions extremely well and rarely lose easily there. Namibia is also one of the most disciplined Associate sides and can punish small mistakes quickly.
This series is important because these are direct competitors in the table. Winning points against them would not only improve Nepal’s position but also stop those teams from moving ahead.
Realistically, Nepal probably needs to win around 5 to 6 matches out of the remaining 8 games to feel safe for ODI status and give themselves a strong chance to fight for Top 4. That is difficult, especially in European conditions, but definitely possible if Nepal can maintain consistency.
The positive side for Nepal is that the team is starting to look more balanced now. Rohit Paudel’s captaincy has brought calmness to the side, Aasif Sheikh has been providing consistency, Kushal Bhurtel gives aggressive starts, and players like Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane bring experience in pressure situations. Ishan pandey is something to watch after last series performance.
For Nepal to succeed, a few things will be very important:
• Winning against teams close in the standings
• Batting partnerships in the middle overs
• Handling swing bowling in European conditions
• Staying calm under pressure
• Taking catches and avoiding fielding mistakes
Honestly, Nepal’s situation is much better than many people think. ODI status is still in Nepal’s own hands, and if they perform strongly in the upcoming European tour, the dream of finishing in the Top 4 could become very real.
This next series might be the biggest test for Rohit Paudel’s generation so far. 🇳🇵🔥
