Today, I honor the legendary Sosai Mas Oyama on what would be his 101st birthday (June 4th by the old Japanese calendar). As the founder of Kyokushin Karate and the Kyokushinkaikan organization, his legacy continues to inspire and empower millions of practitioners worldwide.
Mas Oyama's vision gave birth to Kyokushin, a karate style renowned for its rigorous training, full-contact sparring, and indomitable spirit. His teachings have forged strong, disciplined, and resilient martial artists who embody the essence of Bushido.
From intense physical conditioning to mastering powerful techniques, Kyokushin practitioners push their limits, embracing the mantra "OSU" – a symbol of perseverance and respect. Oyama's emphasis on character development, respect, and mental fortitude resonates through dojos around the globe.
The Kyokushinkaikan organization, established by Sosai Oyama, united karatekas, fostered a community dedicated to personal growth, mutual respect, and the pursuit of excellence. His contributions have transcended cultural and geographical boundaries, making Kyokushin a universal language of strength and humility.
As an instructor in Kyokushin Karate, I feel deep gratitude for Sosai Mas Oyama's teachings, which remain profoundly relevant today. His legacy continues to guide and inspire me.
Let us honor Mas Oyama by recommitting to the true essence of Kyokushin.
Practice with dedication, respect, and perseverance.
