Life lessons that learning to hunt as an adult taught me 🧐
Patience - not every outcome is a given, not every hunt is a guarantee. Sometimes you have to spend a really long time sitting on a freezing hill looking at nothing to see something. Sometimes you have to sit in a bush for three hours to get a chance to take your shot. Sometimes that shot never comes 🫠
Persistence - Sometimes you go through a rough patch, sometimes you have hunt after hunt go without an animal. Sometimes you miss, sometimes the wind is wrong, sometimes despite everything pointing to there being animals, there are none to be seen. You just have to keep showing up, you don’t get better by sitting on the couch moping 😖
The importance of moving slow - Despite what the Rambo short form feels of Instagram show you, to hunt you have to move slowly. You don’t notice movement, smell or sound if you’re rushing to get to the next redline, summit or gully. You don’t hunt for speed you hunt to the environment. And the environment requires you to notice it, the amount of times I’ve sat on the side of a hill thinking there is nothing around just for three deer to pop out 50 metres away is astounding. It also means you don’t have to be super fit to hunt 👀
Awe - A bit woo woo for me but so true, hunting has taught me to notice things I never did when I was tramping. The requirement to slow down and really absorb your environment really changes your perspective. A deer very rarely looks like a deer, it’s a flicker of an ear, a slightly different shade of grey in a bush, the small bleat on the wind. By stopping to look for theses things you notice everything else, the way the sun hits the rocks, the sound of rushing water, the birds. Every time I go hunting without fail nature will take my breath away regardless of whether I take an animal or not 🍃🍂

I was asked a question recently - “what is the offering here?”
And it got me thinking, like really thinking about what our offering is, what makes our experience unique but also why we enjoy it so much and I think the answer comes down to this.
We offer a bespoke student led opportunity to learn to hunt.
An oppurtunity which starts with you why and is translated through all your learning to your hunting because we are lucky enough to be able to offer the oppurtunity that every student will get to experience their own full hunt which can include taking an animal if the student wishes.
It means our students have felt the experience of a full hunt, they have been out on the hill, they have stalked, they have taken an animal and have learnt to do the basic butchery so they know they can do it, there is no gaps in the knowledge because they have done it all.
Which instils the confidence for them to carry on their hunting journey knowing they can do it and have experienced doing it all.
This is why we keep our groups small, so we can tailor our teachings to each group and what they are interested in or what they are concerned about. We want to get to know you personally and your wins are our wins.
There are some great programmes available on the market and each one has their strengths and ours is simply that we offer the complete package, to set you up wherever your hunting journey takes you 🏔️ 🦌 ❤️
If you are looking for this experience then get in touch.
We have our next Ladies Only Learn to hunt schedule for the 19-20 September with limited places available
Or if you have a few friends who are also keen, we also offer private learn to hunts, perfect for your next girls weekend!

One of the most important things that we discuss when you learn to hunt is your why. Not because there is a right or wrong answer but because it helps us tailor your Learn to Hunt journey. Otherwise it’s completely up to you, not any one else’s opinion.
You want to hunt to provide meat for your family? Excellent 💁🏼♀️
You want to make trophy hunting part of your journey and challenge yourself to seek out your definition of trophy? Perfect 👌
You want to learn to hunt to explore our vast backyard, right into the most remote spots by foot, boat or helicopter and hunt the animals that call that place home? Incredible 🙌🏼
You want to do your part for the environment and hunt for the purposes of pest control to protect the flora and fauna? Hell yeah 👍
You want to keep your adventures close to home and get your whanau involved in food chain and gathering of their food? Epic 👏🏼
You want to spend your days outdoors and consider hunting as a career? Get after it!
You just want to spend more time outdoors, meet some cool people who also love the outdoors and eat snacks on the hill? Coolio👏🏼
Your why is for you and is all part of what you develop as part of your learn to hunt journey. Your why can also change as you move through the stages of your hunting life. There is no wrong or right and as long as you are comfortable with it, don’t worry about others opinions. Everyone’s got one and they aren’t all right, in fact the only right one is the one you have come up for yourself 🫶🏼
Ready to take your next steps? Our next Learn to Hunt is set for 16-17 September. Get in touch now.
