Sport New Zealand's new Spotlight on Girls and Young Women's Participation explores what's helping girls and young women take part, where barriers still exist, and the opportunities communities have to better support participation.

The findings offer plenty to reflect on for schools, clubs, coaches, organisations and communities across Canterbury.

🏅 Canterbury made its mark at Glasgow 2026.

As the third most represented region in the New Zealand Team, Canterbury athletes played a major role in a successful campaign, collecting medals across athletics, cycling, lawn bowls and judo.

Congratulations to every Canterbury athlete who wore the fern in Glasgow, and to the wider New Zealand Team for a fantastic Commonwealth Games. Your performances have given communities across Aotearoa plenty to celebrate!
