This week we came together to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori through waiata, karakia, kōrero, tākaro and connection.
From sharing phrases and personal commitments to te reo Māori, to giving whutuporo pā and taonga tākaro a go alongside our partners, the week was full of learning, laughter and whanaungatanga. We also joined the wider community in celebrating te reo Māori across Ōtautahi through the Hikoi mō te Reo Māori.
As we finish with today's theme, Te Reo Tuku Iho, we're reminded that the future of te reo Māori is shaped by what we do beyond this week. For us, that whakaaro is reflected in Tūhono, our pounamu mauri stone, which sits within Whare Hākinakina and symbolises the connections across our people, places and communities. Tūhono reminds us that this journey is ongoing, and that each of us has a responsibility for what we contribute and what we leave for those who follow.
Ngā mihi nui to everyone who got involved, embraced the challenge and gave it a go.
Patua te taniwha o whakamā. Karawhiua! 💙💚💛🖤
