Thanks Boating New Zealand for a great write up of the good ship!
Now for sale, Kick, the Elliott 1050 cruiser racer with Round North Island pedigree
Kick comes off the 2026 Doyle Sails Round North Island Two Handed Yacht Race with a fourth on corrected time, third on points, second in Division 3, and seventh overall on line honours. In Leg 2, she won outright on handicap. Her offshore record runs deep across New Zealand racing. From the 1,250 na...

Big weekend tidying up the boat and putting her back into cruising fitout even tho she is now on the hard stand awaiting final assessment before repairs commence.
And this morning just finishing up sorting out the last bits into storage at home and we have now retired the battle flags to the workshop at home to keep the memories alive and to remind us what we have achieved over the last 8 years, we purchased the boat in 2018 with the intention of the 2020 RNI and I guess we never stopped the prep and develoment of the boat which led into 2 more laps of the North Island.

Well that's a wrap for leg 4 of the Doyle Sails Shorthanded Sailing Association of New Zealand Round North Island Race.
Not how we intended on finishing this leg with only 1/3 of our rudder after hitting something a few hours before East Cape (alot of debris out there from trees to drain coils and the likes). Going into the night after East Cape we sailed very conservatively with Main only as it was to risky not seeing the wind on the water and putting the S2 up with Limited steerage so it wasn't until day break came we started to speed up again with putting up some extra Sails.
With carefully balancing the boat with reefs in the main and different fore sails we managed to make good time to the finish just before the tide turned.
Huge thanks to Ben Roff, you have been a great Co-Skipper and we were very competitive through out the legs and was ashame we couldn't push to the end but also persevering to the end with minimal rudder shows some great seamanship skills.
Kick will no doubt be back better than before once the rudder is repaired and ready for her future owner and until then we will continue cruising her around the gulf with the family.
Another amazing RNI organized by SSANZ and cant thank all the volunteers and organisers enough for putting it together yet again.

Just a note to all our followers in the Doyle Sails Shorthanded Sailing Association of New Zealand Round North Island Race, if you notice we slowed down around midday today this is due to loosing half of our rudder, we are managing with reduced sail area and coming into flatter waters which hopefully help us start getting back upto speed a bit.
We are still racing and plan to finish the race if the rudder stays together.
Everyone cross your fingers 🤞

From a bumpy wet start crossing the cook strait for leg 3 and a nice calm slide to the finish we definitely got dealt it all.
10th on line overall mixing it up with the div 2 boats again, 5th PHRF overall and second on line and PHRF in Div 3 with Ragnar really making us work for it!
And I believe we are still sitting second overall on PHRF so it is all to play for in leg 4.
Leg 4 starting 1pm tomorrow.

Finished leg 2 at 1716 4th on line, pretty amazing effort to have half dive 1 behind and all div 2 behind and we are a div 3 boat!
Motoring into Waikawa now, time for a cold one 👍.
Come say hi if you are down here over the next few days.

Leg 1 is done and dusted, with a 3rd on handicap and line for Div 3, not a bad result for a conventially ballasted yacht with the 2 sunfast 3300's carrying water ballast.
Leg 2 start 0900 this morning!
