Introducing our 8WC Male winner ๐ฅ.
Meet our humble lunchtime class representative โฑ๏ธ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ. Much like Samwise Gamgee to Frodo, you often see Sam with always standing by his side ๐ค๐ผ๐ค๐ผ.
Just as Sam motivated Frodo to destroy the One Ring, Sam's encouragement and dedication is a perfect reflection of his 8WC results, conquering coachesโ targets (or Travisโs๐ โCmon Travโ) together ๐ฏโ๏ธ.
4.9kg of body fat down, but a whopping 2.9kg increase in muscle mass ๐ฎโ๐จ.

Sheโs an extremely hard work (when she wants to, or when she gets caught resting๐คญ) but her relentless dedication and strong work ethic was the key to her 8WC journey and success ๐๐ผ

โIโve tried a number of sports as a kid - netball, a stint at badminton, roller skating (๐ผ) and rhythmic gymnastics ๐คธโโ๏ธ. In more recent years, thereโs been yoga, Zumba, ๐ตโโ๏ธ and ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ- but as an adult, Iโve struggled to be self motivated with exercise. Iโd often find something else to prioritise, a reason or an excuse to put it off.
In September 2022, with work and two teenagers (and no fitness routine), I thought life was busy and I didnโt have time to prioritise my own fitnessโฆbut I wanted to be stronger.
I trialled at another local gym but it wasnโt a good fit for me. Mark had been at the jungle for a few months already so I decided to give it a go. As a feminist, I was almost deterred by the jokes (๐คฃ) but pushed through and was surprised how quickly it became a habit to be at the jungle most days.
My body has survived a lot over the years, but Iโm so proud of the progress Iโve made over the last year. Iโm now fitter and stronger than I ever remember. Iโve learnt so much and this is just the beginning - Iโm committed to the lifestyle change ๐๐ฝ
Now rather than looking for excuses, Iโm looking for ways to make the week work to fit in my gym classes. In a busy household, it takes a bit of planning, but itโs worth it and itโs an investment in our future!
Iโm usually a 4.45er and Mark is part of the 6am crew, but we get to hang out together at 7.30 on a Saturday morningโฆrecently making it on the white board for the first time (for me)โฆpower couple! ๐ However, the two pinnacles of my sporting ventures over the years, although 33 years apart, share a theme - Jump Rope for Heart skipping at the 1990, Commonwealth games closing ceremony, and of course taking out the womenโs weighted ball skipping challenge in the most recent BFT 8WC 2023 ๐ช๐ฝ
Seriously though, Iโve worked in mental health for over 20 years, but the best thing Iโve done for my own mental health is joining Mt Welly Jungle in 2022โ. ๐ฆ๐

Itโs that time againโฆwhere us coaches, embark on yet, another journey to raise awareness for the Heart Foundation ๐. However, our members have decided our fate of โwalking the talkโ and โleading from the frontโ by donating every cent (and I mean, every cent โ we found Australian coins lol ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ)out of โloveโ and respect for this special initiative!
As always, weโve switched things up (pun-intended๐). Our calories for every dollar that was donated went up from 2 to 5 calories ๐ฎโ๐จ These calories will be completed in old fashion style. Weโre throwing it ๐ to where it all startedโฆ Lunn Ave, McDonalds ๐คญ Oops, we mean Lunn Ave Intersection where we happily suffered doing Beep for Burpees on that rough gravel track ๐ซ
We think itโs time to support our community in stepping outside our comfort zones again, to practice what we preach in the heart of Maungarei!

Weโve did the hard yards in losing body fat percentage through our 8 week challenge. Now itโs time to build and sculpt that sand castle! โณ๐๏ธ
From tomorrow, we start the โBench Markโ - a 9 week training block focusing on developing strength, technique, & progression! This is why weโre different, better ๐
Our two main exercises are the Barbell Back Squat and Barbell Military Press ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ We will be strength testing in WEEK 2, & WEEK 9 which provides us with ample opportunity to grow and be stronger ๐ฆ Note that this is totally optional. An opportunity you donโt want to miss!

As our bodies are capable of extraordinary things (like putting your body on the line to make the whiteboard ๐คญ), they also require proper care and maintenance to perform at their best (especially at the Jungle) ๐ฆ.
We are ecstatic to announce that one of our most dedicated and OG 5AM member, Steph Patterson, will now provide her expertise in Physiotherapy as Habit Health Mount Wellington at our whare! ๐
Habit Health Mount Wellington offers a wide variety of services including physiotherapy treatment, acupuncture, exercise rehabilitation and massage ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ. They will be located inside BFT Mt Wellington (top floor), with parking available at the door ๐ช. Steph will be joined by her amazing colleague, Michaela Dawson ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ.
Reflecting on Stephโs Journey, she graduated from AUT Akoranga in 2004 with a BHSc Physiotherapy. With a passion for healing and a commitment to her patients' well-being, Steph has earned a reputation for her dedication and expertise through managing Waitakere Stadium Physio clinic at the Trusts Arena since 2007 ๐. During this time, she gained extensive experience with the Auckland Lions Bartercard league team, Mount Albert Lions Rugby League team, Metro Lions American Football, and the Northern Mystics Netball Franchise ๐๐. In 2018, she became a clinic director, which set her apart as a true leader in her profession and now, known as one of the most highly regarded Physioโs in her field today! ๐
Steph has been based in her Henderson clinic for the past 17 years and looks forward to expanding her clinic to be closer to Maungarei ๐๏ธ. By prioritizing our health and well-being through positive lifestyle choices, we can enjoy a higher quality of life and be better prepared to face whatever comes our way!

NZ Police Gateway for Youth. These South Auckland kids are part of a program with the Pirihimana and MSL Training looking to join the police and enquired to see if we can take them through a workout with our lunch time members.... being a South Auckland boy myself and having my fair share of run-ins with the cops, how could we say no...... it was payback time! ๐ quite therapeutic yelling and swearing at Police ๐คญ thank you to for the connect โค๏ธ dm us if you want to bring in your team ๐ฆ
