The world of work โ and the safety profession โ is being reshaped at pace by data, technology, and innovation. Encouragingly, industry is shifting from a technology-first mindset to a human-centred one.
For safety practitioners, this creates both opportunity and challenge: how do we harness data, technology, and innovation to better support people at work โ not replace them? And how do we distinguish what truly matters from whatโs just hype?
Thatโs why having a clear frame of thinking is critical โ to understand whatโs emerging, whatโs changing, and what to do next.
At this yearโs NZISM National Roadshow, expert Cam Stevens will lead three one-day workshops in Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. These sessions will bring together health and safety professionals for practical, forward-looking conversations that matter.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐บ ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐
Operating at the intersection of Safety, AI, and digital transformation, Cam brings a global perspective to modern safety practice. Through his philosophy โ Better Work, By Design โ he helps organisations use data and technology to enhance (not replace) human-centred safety.
A Chartered Safety Professional and AIHS Fellow, Cam has led 200+ safety deployments worldwide.
Members and non-members are both welcome.

Today we join people across Aotearoa to mark Pink Shirt Day โ a reminder that creating a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace is everyoneโs responsibility.
Bullying isnโt always obvious. It can show up as exclusion, constant criticism or behaviours that quietly erode confidence and wellbeing. Over time, these behaviours can have real psychosocial impacts โ affecting mental health, team trust, and organisational culture.
Psychosocial safety means more than preventing harm โ itโs about actively creating environments where people feel valued, supported, and safe to speak up.
On Pink Shirt Day, letโs:
โ
Choose respect in every interaction
โ
Speak up when something doesnโt feel right
โ
Support others to feel safe and included
โ
Lead with kindness, every day

The ILO estimates that psychosocial harms cause 840,000 deaths annually (cardiovascular diseases and work-related suicides) and are responsible for a total GDP loss of 1.37% per year.
In New Zealand, a WorkSafe study found that 40 suicides every year are work-related. These are not recorded in WorkSafeโs official statistics of 50-60 deaths per year. Stress at work is also responsible for significant rates of heart disease, stroke, alcohol and drug abuse.
We need to do better. The current HSW Amendment Bill takes us backwards by ignoring these risks. Weโre calling on the Government to recognise psychosocial harms as critical risks.

When businesses share what recovery at work looks like in practice, they help other workplaces act with confidence.
Weโve partnered with ACC New Zealand to showcase real recovery at work stories from small to medium-sized New Zealand businesses, where people have successfully recovered at work after low-complexity injuries like sprains and strains.
Weโre looking for businesses willing to share their recovery at work experiences, including:
โ๏ธ what worked well
โ๏ธ the practical steps taken to support recovery
โ๏ธ perspectives from employers and employees.
Selected stories will be profiled by ACC and us to support and inspire other workplaces.
