Women's Overnighter Motutapu Winter Solstice

On Saturday 19 June our group of 32 women braved the torrential rain and set off to the dock at Okahu Bay - hopeful that we would be able to water taxi acros to Motutapu Island.

The forecasted rains held off! and we were able to enjoy the island. It was a relaxed timetable, with everyone being free to join in on activities or take time out on their own. Our group explored the island, kayaked, walked, jogged, slept in, woke up early, watched the sunset and sunrise and took a moonlit walk. A few hardy souls went swimming while others tried to be hardy but only managed a very quick dip before racing back to shore - much to the amusement of those watching from the deck.

Our group was made up of seasoned ASC members, new ASC members and some who were completely new Women's Overnighter - they had only seen pictures of us from our Facebook group. This mix of old and new creates a great atmosphere - we have a common interest of the love of the outdoors and everything else just falls into place.

We celebrated mid-winter Christmas, Matariki, Solstice and being in great company by gathering around the table, sharing delicious food, stories about celebrations and lots of laughs.

It was a magical weekend with lovely people - our Women's Overnighter trips always are. So I would encourage those of you watching from the sidelines to join in - you are guaranteed to receive a warm welcome.

We had a beautiful Women's Overnighter with 15 warm, fun and friendly women. The afternoon was clear and bright, perfect for taking in the views along Mercer Bay and Comans track. Then it was off to the hut to enjoy shared food, wine, tea, chocolate and lots of laughs around a cosy fire. We topped it off with an evening walk to take in the stars and moonlight. Perfect way to recharge - ready for a new week.
