Hoffman Cup
Open Drawn Handicap Pairs
Saturday 28th March
We had 10 teams enter and they were challenged initially by heavy dew and a cool fog cover.
As the rinks dried and the mat and air temperature rose conditions were changing.
Tight matches confirmed that the handicappers do a great job .
After the three rounds of 12 end games there were only two pairs with three wins.
Ends won and points scored were used to determine the winners being Andy Collier and Raymond Coates, runners up Dion Dollimore and Nigel Oliver.
Thanks to the 20 players for a good competition.

Saturday update
First round winners were 13 year old Ben, Ray, Paul and Dan
Paul’s win over Mike was 21-20 after 25 completed ends and two killed ends as per the attached photo.
This could have affected Paul in the semifinal when he was run down late in the game 21-18.
The other semifinal saw Ray gain a win over the club’s youngest member Ben, great tenacity Ben.
A good final resulted in a win for Dan over Ray a great competition.

Look who we secured to coach us - the dynamic and impressive Selina Goddard - Woman’s World Number 1 in November 2025 💪
Selina simply loved our Club uniform (referencing our Club as being modern and united 😊), including the personalised shirt we presented her with that has her birthday day on it ❤️
Will we see Selina play in Bowls Maraetai kit - you never know, her bowling career started in East Auckland and we left a lasting impression as we’re known for 😊

Bowls Maraetai had 3 players stepping up to play in the Bowls Auckland Junior (Year 1-5 ) Singles at the weekend.
Paula Johnstone just missed out by points differential to make it to post section play on Sunday
Jim Drake unfortunately did not secure enough wins to go through.
Ross Peden (Roscoe) qualified for post section play after 3 straight wins
Sunday post section round of 16 Roscoe started with a strong win to move into the quarterfinals.
A very tight game that went down to the time limit with Roscoe gaining the crucial two points for a 20-19.
Semifinal drawn against Sam Brack so a tight game expected; with Sam taking an early lead out to 18-8 Roscoe showed resilience to close up to 19-15 before Sam closed it out 21-15.
Great performance from Roscoe beaten by the Competition winner!
