Prize giving 2023 season 🏆

Cracking start to the season, lads.

NICS won the toss and made light work of the opposition by bowling them out on 116 within 20 overs on what was a dream wicket to score runs.

Rum Specials had a great start with 60 runs within first 6 but NICS came back even stronger with Rahul rocking their batting line up finishing with 4 for 34 from his spell. Catching deserves a special mention as NV, Nimit and Faiz took some outstanding grabs to round out a solid performance in the field.

NICS top order went all guns blazing and chased the target down within 13 overs with Gaurav and Harry contributing with quick 41 and 46* respectively.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

The North Indian Cricket Society ("NICS") team takes it's origins back to the late 1990's, where it began as a social team for people of Kashmiri origin in Auckland. At the time there were only a few Kashmiri families in Auckland and they all regularly got together to play cricket. This was then formalised into a social team which started to play its cricket competitively.

What started off as a Kashmiri team, quickly became a melting pot of many cultures, as we recruited across friend circles and networks to keep the cricketing tradition and team alive! The average age of the team that started in the late 90's would likely have been in their mid-to-late 30s, as there were many "uncles" in the original team. As they began to stop playing, the next generation took over to keep the baton moving.

The NICS have played in several competitions, including the Auckland Business House Cricket Association (ABHCA). The NICS have a long tradition of winning, having made their way from the 4th grade of ABHCA right through to the top grade, winning every season to reach the top before switching over to playing Auckland Cricket's Men's 1-day grades.

Once again the NICS started at the bottom in 1-day 4B, winning every year on their way up to 1-day 2B. It is in the 2B grade that the team seemed to stagnate, going on to play 4-5 seasons in 2B before finally cracking the equation with the addition of great talent and team work, which now has the NICS having moved up 2 grades during the 2020/2021 season.

The NICS will now be playing their cricket in 1-day 1B for the 2021/2022 season.

What a wrap to a cracking season!!!

If earning two promotions within the same season wasn't cool enough, the team is absolutely stoked to have received the "Team of the Year 2020/2021" award in it's debut season with Ellerslie Cricket Club.

The NICS have been around for 20+ years and achieved some great feats in it’s rich history. Last summer under the captaincy of Azi Awan, we knew this team is meant for bigger things in One Day cricket. With Gaurav Chutani & Harry Singh taking over the baton this year and the addition of fresh talent, the belief has kicked-up a notch.

Time to celebrate, wind down a bit before gearing up for another exciting season.
