The karaka tree is fruiting. Youβll find these trees in a lot of council reserves and some peopleβs gardens. They are a fantastic food source for the kererΕ«.
HOWEVER⦠the berries are toxic to dogs!!
The unripe berry is green, the ripe berry is orange.
It is the SEED that is toxic. The seed is held within in a husk within the flesh. Even when these berries are rotting on the ground the seed inside the husk is still highly toxic.
If you suspect your dog has eaten a karaka berry, you MUST get them to a vet ASAP.
