Bike helmet and customisation prep for our new Otara Bikelife helmets.

20/05/2026

Happening this friday down at our The Otara Kai Village in partnership with our Ōtara Bike Burb. We would love to hand these out to as many of the young riders as possible ONAC: Ōtara Network Action Committee who have stepped up to help fund these have limited funds so we have to prioritise our Otara riders first. Hopefully we can get more support to get more done for all the other bikelife riders out there involved in the big ride outs. Big massive shout out to ONAC to just getting it done, no overthinking or muck arounds with this.

Couple of our local Otara Bikelife riders will be handling distribution of these alongside the OKV & OBB crew. This will all happen during the youth event OKV are hosting alongside The HIVE Leadership Hub.

There's no registration process but it is FIFS. Just rock up and the boys will get your sorted. Again you need to be part of the official ride outs to get access to these. The boys holding down the fort on friday will know so please do not get offended if they are unable to give you one of these helmets if you are not part of big ride outs.

Prints ready for new helmets 🚲🚲🚲 Big ups to ONAC: Ōtara Network Action Committee for not mucking around and just getting on with us to make this happen for the boys.

All helmets expected to arrive by 20 May then one of the boys will be setup over at the OKV to hand out free to those involved in the big ride outs with Otara riders prioritised first.

Bigs ups to ONAC: Ōtara Network Action Committee for partnering with us and some of our local boys to make this happen. It's been hard when there's been significant funding cuts in our community and on going difficulty to get more funding back into our community for important youth initiatives like this but whether that moneys there or not we will continue on as we always have from day 1 to make things work for the good of our hood.

There's still be the same on going gaps when it comes to supporting our youth in our community and we need to keep advocating to plug those gaps and get the support to our local organisations on the ground here who live, work and are amongst it every day.

We have had to literally work off the smell of an oily rag the past year and even if no funding is there we will continue to do what we can with what ever little we have including our vision to get the Otara Bikelife Academy back open again.

Big ups to ONAC for supporting this to happen.
Stay posted and spread the word!

Big changes happening in our space 👀

Our Otara Bike Burb isn’t going anywhere, we’re just evolving! 🚲✨

We’re moving into a hybrid / mobile, seasonal model, which means you’ll still see us out in the community doing what we love… just in more places and in new ways.

You will also notice some cool collaborations popping up in our old Bike Burb container space soon👏🏽 we’re excited to open the door for more community-led ideas and opportunities.

We are still strong advocates for all things bikes, especially with the cost of petrol these days ⛽💸 and we’ll continue to support whānau to ride, repair, and stay active.

So don’t worry we’re still here, just moving differently.
Stay connected for updates and where we’ll pop up next!

Our team is back, grounded and ready, and we’ve stepped into planning our new direction for 2026.

Guided by a refreshed vision from our Board, our kaimahi have come together to reflect, dream, and map out what the next chapter could look like. There’s a real sense of energy and unity in the room.

We’re excited for what’s ahead. Change is not only necessary — it’s healthy. This year, we are intentionally placing people at the centre of everything we do, including the wellbeing and growth of our own kaimahi.

Stay close. There’s more to come.
