A Positive Sign for Our Course Environment
We recently received some encouraging feedback from local community member Paul Arthur from The CREST Predator Free, who took an evening walk around the golf course with his son, using a good torch and thermal camera to observe wildlife activity.
During their walk, they spotted no possums, no rats, no hedgehogs and no cats around the course. They did see around a dozen rabbits, all located down the western end, and heard a couple of ruru calling during the evening.
While it was not a formal scientific survey, Paul has been doing night walks for many years and commented that this was the first time he had seen no possums, rats or hedgehogs, and no local cats around the ponds.
This is a really encouraging observation and a great reminder of the positive work being done across the golf course and wider local environment. Thank you to everyone involved in helping care for and improve our course.
A big thank you to our volunteer John Cole, who singlehandedly manages the pest control on the course. John took over from Life Member Lew White who initiated the program a few years ago.
