This incredible art piece of colour changing glass balls depending on the perspective of its observer by Olafur Eliasson, somehow reminded me of the different impressions we can have of a wine depending on the mood we are in, our social surrounding or what we eat with it.

So many factors that decide how we perceive the same Wine differently from one day to another.

For me a good glass of wine, shared with a friend is a cultural foundation and way of life.

The conversation that goes along with it is likely to deepen our relationship and inspires new ideas or perspectives on whatever is going on in our lives.

Wine is the most emotional agricultural product I can think of and kind of social connector.

I often made a new friend over a glass of wine and I surely never lost one.

What’s the fuss about old wines? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Obviously, it’s their age in the first place which often gives them some kind of exclusivity. 💎

But there’s more to it if they matured in good cellaring conditions…

Their age adds another whole layer of intriguing complexity to the wine.

I’d describe it as a symphony of tertiary flavours, softer, perfectly integrated tannin and/or acidity and a fully balanced structure.

A multi sensory experience that captivates you and leaves a memory of feeling grateful.

To be fair, an old wine like this 2001 Hans Herzog Spirit of Marlborough is not everyone’s taste.

But if you like wine in all its diversity you should try a wine that is 20, 30 or even more years old. 🍷

What a day & night…and wine😉

The wine of the day: Weingut Leo Aumann, Tribuswinkel - Austria, ‘Rotgipfler Ried Flamming’

A hearty, mouth filling white wine with notes of tropical fruit & touch of spice and exceptional drinkability - obviously... it was flowing continuously from noon until midnight🪩

Grateful being able to support important causes here in NZ like .nz with giving my time & expertise.

Match made in heaven:
Goat cheese ravioli with green asparagus, basil pesto and roasted hazelnuts & a glass of 2023 Bilancia Hawkes Bay Chardonnay

My kind of Afternoon Snack! 🧀🍷

When a craving strikes, there’s nothing quite like a little indulgence — a slice of sourdough with creamy almond butter, a bit of artisan cheese, and that sweet pop of quince jelly to tie it all together.

Now, the wine! A dry, fruity white (think a Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre) has just the right acidity to balance out the creamy nuttiness of the almond butter and bring out the complexity in the cheese.

Here’s a tip: When pairing with cheese, you can focus on contrast over harmony — if your cheese is rich and creamy, a crisp, vibrant wine will elevate both.

Organic 🍃 Pinot Noir from Patagonia - Argentina 🇦🇷 … who would have thought!

Super delicate and delicious. 🤤

Dark cherries 🍒 & red roses 🌹 with a mineral 💎 freshness, simply yum!

And it’s quite affordable too!!! 🤩

2013 Goldenits Burgenland 65 🇦🇹

A Reserve Zweigelt as good as it gets.

Perfect wine for a cold and wet winter afternoon, rich and powerful yet elegant, complex and harmonious 🍷

Matching it with slow braised beef cheeks, truffled mash and oven roasted root vegetables 🥕

Unfortunately, the last bottle available in New Zealand, as it is no longer imported. 😢
