Hard to not love Eddie, i’m not really a social media guy this page withstanding but a mate sent this through.
The PGA Tours reaction to LIV will have a two fold effect on their product, the elevated events thus far have been wonderful, but they have a cut.
You then look at The Honda Classic, wonderful course, normally draws a strong field and well it didn’t. And the longest running sponsor of an event is gone for next year.
After creating an alliance with the European Tour they then promptly can all WGC events that their players gained entry to 🤔.
Interesting times for sure, haven’t watched a ball struck on LIV, still prefer the European Tour as a watch much better commentary / product.
But it’s a bloody nice time to be a top 50 player… chocolate cake for the overfed…
Having spent a good deal of my time around the cut line believe me it fecking matters - no one likes not getting paid - and having the weekend off in golf is a real momentum killer.

The coolest thing about Tiger in this stage of his career is he is being a lot more open about what has made him in my opinion the GOAT.
Feelings are exactly that they are personal and every player needs to find the ones that work for them with the short game in particular having less “rules” so to speak.
But I love ball forward for most pitch or chip shots, less shaft lean, utilize the bounce of the club, easier to control the low point and create a consistent strike.
But you just can’t have too many “shots” and a great goal every time you head to the short game area is to create a new shot, sure work the basics but once you are satisfied they are in order have some fun and create something new to add to your arsenal.

Well if anything you would have to say that the International Team exceeded most’s expectations heading into the event, weakened by several players not being available and I thought some questionable captains selections they did well to not be more soundly beaten.
But in what has to be the worst piece of scheduling by the DP World Tour for the year the French Open was also being played around one of tournament golfs finest layouts Le Golf National, I say tournament with bloody good reason as any mere mortal wouldn’t enjoy the course too much it’s a brute of a layout.
But if you haven’t watched the final round yet be sure you do as you will see the best round played this year by the winner, truly a remarkable performance topped by the shot of the year on the 18th.

This is another very simple yet insightful insight towards better play. Most clients when they first come to see me are very fixated on their swings. Often most of the issues they are experiencing in swing are caused by either a poor grip, setup or alignment and often all 3.
I have personally used the club to pick out an intermediate target for 30 years or more it’s just a very simple way to gain accuracy and intent in this all important area.
No point making a great swing if you aren’t aligned correctly pretty bloody logical but it’s amazing how often players don’t have this as part of their pre swing routine.
It feels a little weird, but this aiming strategy used by top pros can really help your game

Great article and podcast to sign up to for evidence based and practical insights into how to truly impove your game.
As I am always pointing out to clients it’s not the amount you practice, it’s what you are practicing and the accuracy with which you are doing it with that generates results.
It’s hard to maintain motivation this time of year, but this is actaully the best time to be getting some lessons and working on your game so you are ready for the sun when it finally returns!
And in a stronger place with your understanding of your own game and comfortable with the changes better always requires.
If you actually want to get better at golf, this is what you should focus on

What is of great certainty is that links golf is the most elegant of its formats and that St Andrews is the Mona Lisa of said courses.
As a championship it had eveything and more, perfect weather, record crowds, a stacked leaderboard and a compelling finish with an almost peerless performance by Cam Smith to ruin what for many was the fairy tail ending that of an overdue 5th Major for Rory.
But you don’t win when not having a single one putt for the final round and you do when shooting 64 so it all ended as it should have with the best play holding the claret jug, no doubt a few R&A members coughing up their gin and tonics at Cam’s mullet and pondering how many beers it will hold 😋
It all happens so quickly now this new condensed Major schedule with the shifting of the USPGA, sure we have the Fed Ex Cup and Race to Dubai but to a great extent the most meaningful part of the 2022 season is over.
Sure I will be watching, and yes there will be great golf played.
After one post which I deleted I won’t be talking about LIV!
Enough already are 🙃.
It was a hell of an Open befitting of it’s 150th edition.

How can you not be excited, The Open at the home of golf and it’s 150th edition.
As the Scottish Open reminded all with so few links courses played over a season luck namely being on the right side of the draw always plays a part.
It’s a different game links golf a wonderful one, there is an artistry and imagination required, so it’s of no surprise Tiger won around St Andrew’s twice the finest player of his generation but also the most creative.
It will be an achievement for him to play all 4 rounds.
What is exciting is Foxy’s form and a venue that suits him well, one he has played on frequently.
Will be compelling viewing fingers crossed we get the European feed / commentary!

When you have 4 of the top 10 players in the last 5 twosomes for the third round you know the course setup is bang on.
And it is, brutal but fair and it isn’t going to get easier over the last 2 rounds weather withstanding.
If the rain holds off and the course keeps firming up this will be an old school US Open.
What a beautiful venue The Country Club, Brookline is just a wonderful golf course steeped in history going all the way back to the improbable victory by local caddie Francis Ouimet in 1913.

Well I will never be accused of hammering people on this page with posts 🤓.
And well I was wrong about Tiger playing The Masters, sadly he isn’t in shape for this week, albeit the coverage will be better for it as he does chew up a lot of the air time when he is in the field.
But it’s US Open week, we have 2 kiwi’s in the field, with Ryan in particularly great form and a wonderful chance of being part of the story line even though many might not think it’s a course setup that would suit him, the way he has been playing since his return to Europe any course suits that standard of play.
The Country Club is steeped in USGA history having hosted multiple US Am’s & Opens. Nothing tricky about it, just a tough course that requires all facets of your game to be at there best in order to post a score.
Be fair to say the USGA lost their way on course selection and setups and with it the identity of the event, it’s always been about the most brutal course setup of the 4 Majors and the return to more traditional venues is a move they needed to make.
So i’m looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds, Rory played like Rory last week but with a wedge game, he seems to have finally worked out a softer arm swing to give him some much needed control in the only area of his game that required any.
Quite a few form players but the US Open is quirky in that regard, it does have a propensity to throw up some unlikely winners.
