Auckland Council's support has been absolutley pivotal to the development and opening of the new Sir Colin Giltrap Raceway at Colin Dale Park.
With their support, we have been able to deliver New Zealand's newest motorsport facility which will serve not only karting, but a multitude of sporting groups from across Auckland and beyond.
In addition, the track has been built to international kart standards, meaning that it will be able to be used to host international and regional kart events - something that has not been seen in this country.
It was therefore absolutely wonderful that Auckland Council was there to share in the opening ceremony late last month represented by councilor Alf Filipaina and other council staff.
Please take a moment to read the article on the Auckland Council website which covers the event and their involvement in detail.
Thanks again to Auckland Council for their incredible support.

A ribbon cutting followed the opening ceremony.
Robert Cunningham and Vaughan Crang were each presented with outstanding recognition awards and had sections of the track named after them.

Les was a familiar face and a driving force behind KartSport Mt Wellington which paved the way for Sir Colin Giltrap Raceway. We are incredibly saddened to hear of his passing and wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. Les’s contributions to the sport were extraordinary and his karting family will miss him dearly.
Vale Les Thompson
We are saddened to mark the passing of Les, a much-loved and highly respected member of the karting community. Les was a Life Member of KartSport Mt Wellington, where he served as President for approximately a decade, leaving a lasting legacy at “Mt Welly.”
Les’ love of karting and dedication to the sport continued well beyond his time in club leadership. As an official, he served for decades as a Grade 1 steward, giving tirelessly of his time. His commitment was enormous, from regular club days to major events, Les spent countless weekends officiating and supporting the sport he loved.
Many drivers will fondly remember being called up for a quiet chat, where Les would pull out his well-worn book and ask for your recollection of an incident. More often than not, these moments were opportunities for learning and guidance rather than punishment, reflecting Les’ belief in education and fairness.
A kind and gentle man, Les’ contribution to karting and the people within it was immense. He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
