Okinawakan Goju Ryu Karate Do International Association

Great to see our Grandmaster Kiichi Nakamoto Hanshi enjoying another birthday looking strong and healthy. May we enjoy many more.

In late 2018 I became Shibu Cho of Kiichi Nakamoto Hanshi Okinawakan after having spent many years being indirectly affiliated via another Sensei.

After becoming Shibu Cho and being approached by several Sensei I decided to start this international group so that these Sensei could become part of the Okinawakan family. Some of these Sensei were previously indirectly affiliated to Okinawakan via another Shibu Cho.

During 2019 - 2020 my OGKI group expanded quite quickly to cover 12 countries. OGKI has continued to grow with many more members joining to become probably the largest group within the wider Okinawakan family with well over 15,000 members.

In setting up OGKI I made a naive mistake of not choosing a more unique identity to minimise confusion between my OGKI group and others, including of course Okinawakan Honbu. It was my intention at the time to simply show my loyalty and appreciation to my Sensei, Kiichi Nalamoto Hanshi, as well as to promote the Okinawakan family. Unfortunately this has led to some conflicts with other Shibu Cho who also include Okinawakan in their groups name.

To avoid any future conflicts I will be changing the name of this organisation from OGKI and not including Okinawakan to avoid future problems. I am not interested in petty political battles.

I therefore request in the meantime for all OGKI members to stop using the OGKI logo and use of Okinawakan property until appropriate changes have been agreed and made. This may take awhile to be finalised.

Rest assured I stand alongside all current members 100%. My commitment to all members has not changed and advise members and their own groups to be wary of anyone trying to take advantage of the current confusion.
