It’s our last day of the season today.

Mega avalanche is on at 3pm. Free entry, all you need is a pass to get up the hill. Best costume wins prizes, it’s gonna be a hell of a race to end the season.

Details for racing: plan to get on the shuttle before 2.30pm, push or ride up the hill above the shuttle drop for about 10 mins and you will see the start line. It will be a Le Mans mass start from there and we will be racing a gravel road, low pressure, gum diggers 2, Tapotu with the finish being at the base area.

Absolute cracker autumn weather right now! All trails are open this weekend including Pink Stoat and Ruapehu DH.

Get out and make the most of these conditions as we have just 2 weekends left of the season now with our last day being Sunday May 10th.

There’s some changes to lower High Viz trail in the form of a new road being built. Just follow this and look out for the Chinese Laundry intersection.

TĀMAKI MAKAURAU SHREDDER SERIES UPDATE:

While it’s quite obvious it’s not going to be a dry race we do have a small window tomorrow morning where it’s looking clear enough and we can safely host the event.

We have put together 6 of our easier trails for the race stages. We have also condensed these stages so we can get through the race faster and get kids off the hill before the weather turns again in the afternoon. It’s going to be a proper mud race so be prepared!

Updated race schedule:

8am - 10am registration
10.15 race briefing
10.30 6 stage race start
11.00 4 stage race start
3pm race finish
3.30 prize giving

Race rules:

- You have one chance on each stage, no repeats for crashes, mechanicals or catching other riders
- 6 stage competitors will get 2 shuttles to complete the course
- 4 stage competitors will get 1 shuttle to complete the course
- stages 1 and 2 you must pedal up anti gravity uphill trail to access
- riders must complete their stages by 3pm latest
- you may complete stages in any order you like
- Please ensure you have the following protection: Knee pads, full face helmet, elbow pads and chest protection

Here’s some pro tips to optimise your chances in a mud race:
- Have a positive attitude, it’s going to be slippery you’re probably going to come off your bike at some stage, keep going and don’t give up it’s the same for everyone!
- Bring a second pair of gloves and goggles to change half way through the race
- Keep your vision clear by having some water or a dry wipe to clear goggles before dropping into each stage. Clear vision is critical!
- Install a mud guard to the front fork
- Utilise the bike wash each run to keep your bike running smooth and your bike working properly
- Don’t push hard in your race runs, try and relax let the bike slide around, keep the wheels rolling and minimise heavy braking

Take care out there, look out for each other and have fun!
