New Chapter 📖

Keep pushing forwards. In some ways, opening .nz is me coming full circle. For those of you that have followed me for a while, you’ll know this isn’t my first foray into having my own commercial space.

But this is different.

I’ve lost everything before. Destroyed my financial stability, damaged my mental health, and eviscerated my self esteem. Countless nights spent lying on rock bottom, staring at the ceiling wondering if I’ll ever break the cycle of failure.

I’d grit my teeth and carry on trying to make it work. The gamblers’ fallacy right? You’re too far in the hole to give up now. The thing is, if you know how that fallacy works, you know that that’s not even how you’re supposed to think.

7 years since the failure of my first business, and I’m ready to take another crack at it.

✅ Take my mental health seriously. Realize I need to take care of myself as I am prone to some pretty nasty anxiety. My very recent ADHD diagnosis has shed some additional light on this that I am still exploring
✅ Learning to trust (and love) again. The fact that finding someone who can support your weaknesses ( 🥰) , whether for business or emotionally, does in fact make you stronger. You don’t have to do everything yourself.
✅ Gain a deeper understanding of businesses models, how to structure and organize processes so that your business is proactive and not reactive.
✅ Master my craft. Not just from a technical strength coaching perspective, but in understanding peoples behaviors, leading with empathy and ensuring that you’re having a positive impact on their lives and not just giving them a 6 pack.
✅ And to add to the point above, accept that I am, and have always been, extremely sensitive. A weird thing to embrace in a fitness industry that is skewering more and more to overly (at times toxic) stoic masculine ideals. Turns out you can be kind AND strong 🤷‍♂️

Just like strength training, progress is seldom linear, and here I am - not at the beginning but the next chapter. Bring it 👊

I LOVE training with ramping sets of 3. It just works for me. It's low rep enough to work my way up to some heavy lifts, while having enough intra set volume for me to not over reach, and enough overall volume to stimulate hypertrophy.

What's your reason for wanting to build muscle mass?
..
I know for a vast majority of people their goal is to build as much muscle as possible purely for aesthetic reasons. I'll admit that this was my first reason to pick up a barbell too. But over the years that changed. I'm motivated by performance, and that performance requires muscle. Building my physique has just become a nice by-product of chasing bigger numbers.
