💚 Today’s Elderhood session “It’s Time to Talk Emergencies”, brought together seniors and caregivers from across the wider Whau communities for a meaningful morning of learning, connection, and support.

Participants travelled from New Lynn, Avondale, Green Bay, Titirangi, Blockhouse Bay, Henderson, and Hillsborough to join today’s workshop at New Lynn Community Centre, a beautiful reminder of the power of community connection 🤝✨

A huge thank you to Glenn from Auckland Emergency Management for sharing practical emergency preparedness tips and helping build confidence around staying safe and prepared during unexpected events and severe weather conditions across Tāmaki Makaurau.

The room was filled with great conversations, shared experiences, laughter, and valuable learning. Together, we continue building stronger, safer, and more connected communities for our elders and caregivers ❤️

🐾🌿 Elderhood Zoo Day Out 🌿🐾

Today’s biggest challenge wasn’t the walking… it was deciding which animal was everyone’s favourite!

Nothing better than seeing our Elderhood whānau out enjoying the sunshine, fresh air, and each other’s company.

Today was also a reminder to slow down and cherish the little things, taking time to notice the animals, flowers, bugs, and nature around us 🌸🐞🌿

Before we knew it, everyone was busy taking photos, chatting about their favourite animals, sharing stories, and even going down memory lane about old family trips, childhood memories, and days gone by 🫶📸✨ Those simple little moments truly made the day extra special.

Thank you, to Age Concern for making our Elderhood Zoo Day Out possible.

We’re excited to share a beautiful new offering for our seniors and caregivers — the Move with Confidence Programme, delivered in partnership with Quiet Confidence.

This gentle, practical series is designed to help older adults move with ease, improve balance, and build confidence in everyday life. As the programme describes, it supports seniors to “feel steady, safe, and strong” through simple guided movements and awareness practices.

📍 Location: Armanasco House (next to Blockhouse Bay Library)
🕒 Saturdays | 11:30am – 1:00pm
💛 FREE for all seniors and caregivers

🌼 What to Expect
Our sessions focus on practical, empowering skills such as:
- Improving balance and stability
- Moving safely and confidently
- Simple techniques to prevent falls
- Awareness of posture and everyday movement
- Connecting with others in a warm, supportive space

Each month explores a different theme — from grounding and personal space, to moving through your day, to falling gracefully and getting back up with integrity. These workshops gently build on each other, helping participants grow confidence step by step.

🌟 Why this matters
At Elderhood, we believe wellbeing grows through community. This programme offers not just movement, but connection, awareness, and the quiet confidence that comes from understanding your own body.
