If you’re looking for something to do today come on down and check out the show, there’s something for everyone!

🚨 ORANZ CT CIVIL NATIONALS ROUND 2 🚨
Long post again sorry!
What… a… day! 5am Yesterday morning J&C Motorsport headed down to Waikato Offroad Racing Club’s amazing track at TECT Park. Straight away a huge Thankyou to Mat and Mike for driving the 2 ute’s there AND back! Upon arrival the track looked amazing and we got our pit setup with fellow Red Eagle Suspension racer Scott Mitchell and along side Hamish Kelsey who we managed to convince to drag his old wagon out for a skid. Seriously though it was awesome to see him back behind the wheel! 🔥
Race 1
I got off to a great start! The car was feeling awesome after Nick from Red Eagle Suspension had given our Fox bypasses a birthday. She was cornering and jumping the best it has done in a long time! A good battle ensued for the lead against Tony McCall, I think I got the move done on the final lap and the rest is history! 😉 No more needed on that.
I thought our day was done. Back to the pits to cool off and the team absolutely ripped into the car! Before long I looked up and there were so many people offering a hand to get us back out there! It was awesome to see, a few key people were Lyall Marino, Kevin Cooper, Nick Leahy, Andy Paterson, Leon Matich, of course my team was amazing and everyone else that came over to offer assistance THANK YOU!
Race 2
Lining up after a repair like that under pressure it’s always going to play on your mind if things are 100%. I got an average start and the first lap was really just feeling out the car, she felt great so we pushed on! I got the move done for the lead at the final turn at the end of lap 3 and managed to hold on for a win in race 2. The least I could do to thank everyone for their efforts!
Race 3
Another average start and it was a fair old fight to get back into P2. After a few mistakes on my own it took a few too many laps to get the move done. by then McCall had disappeared… bu**er, second place.
Race 4
I wanted to end on a high so focused on my start this race. Got a great start and went side by side over the first jump and into turn 1, I had the inside line and took the lead and drove away from there! A really smooth race, hitting all my marks and the car was feeling awesome. Brought home a clean race and another P1!
Unfortunately after the race 1 DNF I was only able to come away 3rd in class 1 for round 2. A little gutting and hurts our points for the 2026 season.
BUT on the bright side the car is feeling awesome and a testament to that was posting the fastest lap time of the day for class 1 and class 8 combined 💪 the little Cougar sure is still quick!
A HUGE Thankyou to the club, all the volunteers, marshals, track prep crew, photographers, everyone who makes these days happen! Great club and awesome track!
My team - Curly Davies, Mat Cox, Simon Honey, Michael Johnston - Thankyou for all your hours of preparation and organising, I will never be able to thankyou enough. I honestly wouldn’t be on track without you guys!

We’ve made it to Round Two of the ORANZ Nationals, big thank you to Kumho Tyres NZ and everyone else who supported us to get here today. I promised myself I’d do regular updates leading up to round two but here we are.
Race one was doing great but big dramas after taking the lead on the final lap, but thank you to my amazing team we should be good to go for race two!
Stay tuned, Sas will keep you updated!

🚨 LONG POST WARNING 🚨
Yesterday the J&C Motorsport team headed to round 1 of the ORANZ national championship hosted by Counties Manukau Offroad Racing Club at Colin Dale Park! I have to give a massive shoutout to all the volunteers and club members for putting on a stellar event. The McWatt Group team did an amazing job on the track which I (mistakenly) thought was going to be an absolute mudder but turned out to be the best track I’ve raced on!
The run up to this event was largely up in the air… will we make it, won’t we make was the question finally answered by an awesome group of people in Kumho Tyre’s NZ who have come on board for round 1 and beyond! I can honestly say I wouldn’t have been at the racetrack if it wasn’t for them as well as a whole lot of other amazing people and businesses supporting me.
The day started with rain… YUCK! Not the way I wanted to debut the amazing new look thanks to Cody at Kraken Signage but not wanting to let the team and sponsors down we geared up for a mudder. Boy was I wrong! The rain stopped about 10am and even on the warm up laps the track was MINT!
Race 1 - nervous, unsure on the setup with new tyres, refreshed shocks and altered ride heights I had no idea what turn 1 would bring. The car felt ok but man was the track grippy! Lap 1 I tried to put a move on McCall for 1st but ultimately came home P2 with about a 4 second gap to 1st.
Race 2 - The only thing we changed was tyre pressure, down in the front and up in the rear. Race 2 the car felt a bit better. I was still having to use too much cutting brake especially through the sweepers but we were a lot closer to McCall and after starting 3rd we brought home another 2nd.
Race 3 - I said after race 2 whatever we were doing, do more of it! So we raised the rear tyre pressures even more as well as dropped the front ride height. We’re raising the tyre pressures to allow the car to slide rather than having to use the cutting brakes. Starting from pole position I thought this could be the race to hold off the goat McCall. Lap 1 I left the door open into turn 2 and I should’ve know not to with a 13x NZ champion chasing me. Sure enough he took the opportunity and put the move on. This time however I was able to stay on him and especially over the back of the track get a nose up the inside. With 1 lap to go I put a move on at turn 1 but the power of the V8 was able to stay ahead on the exit and followed to our 3rd P2 finish of the day. With the track blue grooving by now however I could see we were heading in the right direction setup wise and McCall however looked to be struggling 👀
FEATURE RACE - the car felt so good after race 3 and I knew the track would’ve continued to lay rubber by the time our feature came along I decided not to touch the setup. Starting P3 I quickly moved to P2 behind McCall. For the first 3 laps I was within striking distance and was just trying to be nuisance, showing my nose everywhere I could. I could see McCall was struggling with his car and later found out they went down in tyre pressure which gripped the car up like crazy! My moment came when about lap 4 McCall pushed way wide after the dipper, I stuck it up the inside and drove away! The blue groove track + our awesome setup made the car an absolute breeze to drive and I could put it anywhere I wanted! I drove home to a feature race WIN! 🥇 Tony McCall always told me growing up “To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best”. I feel like we took a big step in the right direction after yesterday!
A huge shoutout to Class 10 driver Ed Hiestand who kept me honest all day! I was able to keep my eyes forward for the most part but he was always flashing in my mirrors, especially for the final few laps of the feature race! Congrats on a great day mate!
As I’ve said plenty of times I wouldn’t have been there yesterday without the help of so many great people around me. To my sponsors this year 👇

My team around me for the day you guys were a huge help and allowed me to just focus on driving. Thankyou so much!
Special thankyou to Simon & Michael who helped out a lot in the week leading up to the event. Also of course my dad Curly whose support means so much and he’s always right there to offer advice, encouragement and everything in between. He never says “we won’t make it” no matter what gets thrown our way he will find a way to get me and the car to the start line. It was a great feeling coming off the track after the feature and being met by him and the team, it made the late nights worth it!
A big thankyou to my partner Saskea for always supporting and pushing me to be the best person I can be! She worked a night shift Friday night and drove straight to the track ON VALENTINES DAY to support me and that means a lot!
Phew… I think that’s everyone thanked and all points talked about from an awesome day! All I can say now is bring on ROUND 2! 🔥
