Have you better things to do than reading the "Rifleman´s Guide"?

Let's hear it then!

The "Rifleman Guide" is intended as an introductory and training resource for airsoft players who take part in military simulation (MilSim) games. Drawing on concepts taken from real military manuals, tactical simulators, and the accumulated experience of seasoned players, it aims to provide a practical framework to improve safety, coordination, and effectiveness on the field.

The guide covers everything from fundamental safety principles and basic rifleman conduct to fire techniques, in-game survival, communications, and an introduction to buddy-team–level tactics. All content is adapted to the MilSim airsoft context, prioritizing realistic simulation, teamwork, and tactical immersion over simply winning the game.

It is aimed at both new players and those with prior airsoft experience or military training, with the goal of raising the overall standard of gameplay and facilitating effective team integration.

Okay? 🤦‍♂️

We hear this a lot.

First, we want to be clear. We have full respect for the military and everything it represents. Real military service involves sacrifice, responsibility, and real-world consequences that go far beyond anything a recreational activity can represent.

That said, airsoft is not military service, and it doesn’t need to be.

Some people enjoy airsoft because it has elements inspired by tactical thinking: communication, coordination, positioning, and decision-making under pressure. Especially in milsim-style games, players may adopt structured roles and realistic approaches to gameplay.

But even then, it remains a game.

The purpose is still recreation, competition, learning, and community, not replicating real combat or replacing real-world experience.

That’s where the misunderstanding usually comes in.

Enjoying airsoft doesn’t mean someone is trying to become a soldier. It means they enjoy a challenging activity where strategy, teamwork, and discipline matter.

It’s similar to how:

👉 someone can enjoy chess without becoming a grandmaster,
👉 enjoy racing without becoming a professional driver,
👉 or enjoy martial arts without competing professionally.

You can fully respect military service while also appreciating airsoft for what it is. A sport and hobby built around teamwork, challenge, and improvement.

Different worlds. Different purpose. Both deserve respect in their own context.

Those of us who play MilSim usually expect to incorporate real-world techniques into our games; that’s a given. We also expect rules and mechanics that make the use of realistic tactics produce believable and coherent results within the game itself. However, there doesn’t seem to be a clear consensus on how much realism is acceptable — or even necessary — for an event to truly be considered MilSim.

Because, let’s be honest: most military tactics cannot simply be copied straight from a manual into an airsoft game. And that’s because they were designed to succeed in a completely different environment. From the psychological factor of the combatants, to the tools available, the terrain, and even the ultimate purpose behind those tactics — everything changes.

The phrase I hear most often is: “it should be realistic, but also fun.” And that leaves a huge amount of room for interpretation because, just like realism, fun is highly subjective.

So the question becomes: where do we draw the line?

No respawns?
Randomized medical treatment?
Games lasting more than 24 hours?
Strict ammo limits?
Mandatory chain of command?
Capturing prisoners for intelligence gathering?

What do you think? What level of realism is necessary for a game to still feel like MilSim without stopping being enjoyable?

CALYPSO ABLAZE is more than an Airsoft event.

It is a living MilSim campaign where every mission, every decision, and every victory or defeat helps shape an evolving story. This comic exists to tell that story.

Each operation played on the field becomes part of the CALYPSO ABLAZE universe. The comic not only explores the political conflict, military operations, and hidden interests behind the war in Venelombia, but also adapts itself to the actual outcome of the games played by participants.

The missions influence the narrative, and the narrative influences the missions.

Many of the characters appearing in these pages are directly inspired by players, squads, and events from the games themselves. Actions performed during missions, tactical successes, desperate retreats, heroic defenses, and unexpected failures may later appear illustrated in the comic as part of the official storyline.

Nothing is fully scripted. The future of Venelombia remains uncertain.

Will AEGIS recover control of its assets and continue exploiting the country’s strategic resources? Or will General Pérez and the Revolutionary Army consolidate their grip on power and reshape Venelombia through force, fear, and military rule?

The answer depends not only on the writers……but on the players on the field.

Enjoy reading and playing, as we enjoyed bringing it to you.

Here´s the frst compendium, it goes from the beginning till the Operation "Coastal Window".
